And if something were to happen to McCain before then?

If the best she can bring to the table in terms of foreign policy is "I can see Russia from a small island in Alaska" then we're all fucking screwed if she's sworn in.

No one can predict how much time he has left. True. What I do know is there is no way he was a POW for that long and not scarred. I don't want him having an episode when he has his shaky finger on the red button.

Put age and physical health aside. Dubya is sane, for argument's sake. No major trauma. No war issues. McCain can't say that.

McCain: "She knows more about energy than probably anyone else in the US"

    Be scared. Be very scared.

And "She's the most popular Govenor"

Even with 100% popularity, we're still talking about a population that is 1/4 the size of Chicago.

Half the population there is probably related to her or her husband, anyway.

FYI, greater Chicagoland, with all it's suburbs, has 8 million people. So Alaska has 13% of the population of Chicago.

OMG - it's even worse than I thought! I got a number of 2.8 million. Nice.

I need to drink more. And I have a feeling come election day, I'll be hammered by noon.

Yes and she was elected with only 17% of registered voters voting for her. That pretty much her exteded family.

I fail to see why McCain chose her, of all people? I don't get it.

especially for our sake I hope that's nothing serious.

She's an archetype of the pioneer woman, the frontier woman, the country woman, the redneck woman. A female John Wayne meets Tammy Wynette 'stand right behind your man' type. The republicans pander to image because they know it sells candidates for them... it worked with Reagan, and it worked with Bush. I'm not sure that she's appealing to people that wouldn't otherwise vote for McCain, but among republican women she's really hit a chord.

It's a scar from when he got a cancerous growth removed. The scar has since swelled, from what I understood.. I could be wrong, though.

    CNN's Electoral Map: Who's ahead - CNN.com

Well, this makes me feel somewhat better.

Obama should really focus on Michigan. His energy plan could really come into play there with the auto industry. Offering major tax incentives to develop non-gas-dependent vehicles could revitalize jobs up there.
