The only time healthcare suffers is when asshole conservatives get into power, cut taxes for a cheap win and then gut funding for healthcare.
Is this what is happening when we hear of long waits in Canada for tests and such? The politicians can take money allocated to the province for healthcare and use it for something else? And then blame the system for the long waits?

The biggest risk I see to the public option is that many doctors will not accept it. The doctor I see right now does not take Medicare or Medicaid, only private insurance. So I can see the "rationing" in a sense that there will be fewer doctors available for those on the public option, because they know they will make more if they only accept the private insurance. That's the problem with this dual system they are proposing.
