It's unbelievable, but it still happens in 2009.
That happens in the Detroit area too. A friend of mine - black, GM employee, body builder, handsome, and law-abiding - gets pulled over regularly. Hasn't done a thing. Happens to his wife and his African-American friends too. Disgusting.

    Captain Obvious!

I know someone who knows someone (ha), an older white lady (since we're talking about race) and she commented that the day Obama won the election, she wanted to commit suicide, because he's black.

    Gotta love racism!

Who said that EVERYONE who dislikes Obama is a racist? Carter didn't say it, and neither did anyone else.

In NC I would say that a lot people who say that Obama is socialist are saying that with racist undertones. To those people

socialist = giving money to lazy poor people
lazy poor people = black welfare recipients

I call it like it is.

I would never say that EVERYONE who dislikes Obama does so on the basis of his race, but I would say that a lot of the dislike (or downright hatred) is based on the fact that he's a black (or half black) man who had the gall to run for the Presidency and beat a white guy. Change is hard to accept and people are terrified of it; status quo, even if it doesn't work, is easier because the expectations are already so low. Change = unknown, scary, uncertain, revolutionary, can't ever go back again territory. Hardcore ignoramuses are comfortable and happy being that way.

    Huckabee: Obama Critics Aren’t Racist

By David Weigel 9/18/09 2:19 PM

At his short press conference at the Value Voters Summit, Mike Huckabee took an open-ended question about former President Jimmy Carter’s remark that “there is an inherent feeling among many in this country that an African-American should not be president.”

“Do we still have racism?” asked Huckabee. “Yeah! Of course we do. But that’s not what this discussion over health care or over foreign policy is all about.” And he talked for about three minutes about his own racial tolerance.

“For me, personally? Who appointed the first African-American attorney general in my state when there was a brief vacancy? Who had more African-Americans in my cabinet, and in my staff, than even Bill Clinton or Jim Guy Tucker did? Who got 48 percent of the African-American vote, as a Republican, which is unheard of? I’m especially offended.”

It's not a good sign when you have to start counting black people in your life. That's like saying 'I have three black friends, and one of them has even been inside my home.'

And I love how people try to twist Carter's comments into 'any criticism of Obama is racist,' which he didn't say.
