As a fiscal conservative who actually believed in those principles when the Republicans were in power, I guess I should be happy at this phenomenon. And I would be if it had any intellectual honesty, any positive proposals, and any recognizable point. What it looks like to me is some kind of amorphous, generalized rage on the part of those who were used to running the country and now don't feel part of the culture at all. But the only word for that is: tantrum.

These are not tea-parties. They are tea-tantrums. And the adolescent, unserious hysteria is a function not of a movement regrouping and refinding itself. It's a function of a movement's intellectual collapse and a party's fast-accelerating nervous breakdown.
Of course part of the irony Andrew isn't mentioning in this post is these "conservatives" went lock-in-step with Bush's policies and reviled anyone who criticized Bush and those very policies.

Actually, I think he did mention it in this passage:

"I will leave aside the somewhat awkward fact that Fox News and Pajamas Media barely covered the massive debt racked up by the Republicans during a period of economic growth."

BTW, Joe the Plumber was stinking up my state today.

I’m here for one reason and one reason only: It’s I love America,” Wurzelbacher told the crowd. “Mainstream media wants to paint us as a bunch of extremists, right? We’re in search of liberty and our freedoms. What’s so extreme about that?”

“I’m just regurgitating,” Wurzelbacher said. “I believe in common sense.”

Wurzelbacher went on to lambaste what he said was a rising tide of “socialism” across the country and laid the blame on the U.S. government.

“Let me give you another extremist view, ‘In God We Trust,’” he said to wild applause. “Say that too loud in some parts of America and you will be shot. It’s terrible.”

The conservative mantra. Regurgitating jingoistic sayings that have nothing to do with what's happening.

The only time I've heard of this was rumors that the Columbine psychos went around asking students if they believed in god before they shot them. That was in Colorado, not Congress, and certainly not by Obama. I don't believe they were socialists either, LOL.

AND, what the hell does that have to do with taxes? Or is he saying that Christians are extremists?

Regurgitating/vomiting misinformation, it's the same shit with a different name, just like Sam/Joe himself.

Andrew Sullivan has been amusing me all day long. Here's another gem:
The Goal Of The Tea Parties

    Jesse Taylor is curt:
Tea Partiers are hoping that if they mimic the energy of anti-war protests and the savvy of Obama’s new media operation, that at some point an actual movement will spawn. Getting together a bunch of pissed off middle-aged white people with no clue about how the tax system works in public areas will generate a coherent agenda designed to combat the stimulus; if it gets enough media coverage, they will DOMINATE THE AGENDA.

It’s like taping a horn to a horse and waiting for it to alight on a magic cloud of stardust and pixies.

Here's a sample of the kind of people at these protests. I can't find a video that will work here but will try. He's a real genius, eh?

I'm supposed to go to a Santa Monica tea party, but I'm swamped here. Neiwert went to one in Seattle. In Chicago the wackos are out in force.

Roesgen: Why do you say he's a fascist? He's the President of the United States. Do you realize how offensive that is?

    Wingnut: I think he's a fascist.

    Roesgen: Why?

    Wingnut: Because he is.

I was looking at one of these rallies in my state on the local news. See kooks with all kinds of signs having zero to do with taxes. Signs about illegal immigration and everything near and dear to these people. As pointed out before many of these protestors don't know what the f**k they are protesting about, they just want to make it a general anti Obama type thing with all the right wing conspiracies.

    Just because... hee hee.

And just for extra WTFage, there seems to have been a Nazi burning of Ah-nuld movies among the teabagging festivities:
