God does judge, but are you telling me people can't judge too? There goes our whole justice system...if they get awarded the death penalty during their trial, they probably deserve it.

^^but that is supposedly why the pope is against our judicial system...he has tried to strong arm many U.S. politicians into being against both abortion and the death penalty....I'm only telling you what the Catholic Church says....

...your logic ignores the appeals process in which the judicial system admits that it makes errors and tries to rectify them.....

I wasn't saying the appeals process was bad, they do need to be EXTRA sure they are not making mistakes when dealing with someone's life or death, I was responding to the fact that abortion and death penalty were lumped together when they are seperate issues.

And I doubt most of our politicians listen to the Pope, anyway.

Most "developed" nations have outlawed the death penalty: the European Union (in entirety), Norway, Japan, etc. It is barbaric in a civilized society, and there's no need. It's much cheaper (and obviously no chance of killing an innocent person) by making life sentences without parole the highest punishment.

Well it does say in the bible, "Thou shalt not judge..."

the rest of the verse is "lest you also be judged." meaning, you will be held to the standards you hold others too, so you better live the way you tell others to.

^^no....it means lest you be judged by God as a bad, nasty, judgmental person.....so the Bible says that its followers are NOT to judge at all.....that's God's job....along with interfering in the lives of atheists like myself....

    The actual verse.....

Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
