... and yet there is still a lot of opposition to universal healthcare. i don't get it.

Wow, eliminating healthcare for the poor, pretty fucking inhumane in a western nation. Wouldn't be surprised if people advocating for this like to kick puppies in their spare time for shits and giggles.

I keep on thinking of all these churches in CA who pour money into preventing gays getting married, meanwhile their state and likely the party they support is doing pretty much the opposite of what Christ did for a living. Shit, talk about fucked up priorities.

Well, I am also pissed about eliminating CalGrants. MANY students wouldn't be able to go to college if it wasn't for getting a Cal Grant to help pay for some or all of their tuition. So I guess we can expect less college graduates as well, that's going to help our nation's economy for sure!!

I'm so sorry, msdeb. If I could help you out, I would, and I really mean that. It sounds like you're going through so much right now.

Meanwhile salaries aren't increasing (or you are losing your job/hours) and they are jacking up the price on everything- my sewer bill went up $600 and will increase $150/year for the next 3 years guaranteed, our DMV registrations have increased a shit load, the sales tax is now 9.25%...... my HOA went up an extra $100/month.... I don't have extra money coming in, FUCK!!!!!!
Doesn't that suck so much?? I only happened into that info when I was 18 and so I halted my applications to insurance companies. It makes me so mad because so many people don't know about that and they just apply apply apply to various companies to try to get insurance.

I'm going to research if this is true- I'll let you all know. I hope it isnt.

Why anyone would oppose universal healthcare is beyond me.

My mom died without insurance so I have have first-hand knowledge of this. She had cancer 30 years before and they counted that against her (although full remission). She was retired and lived modestly, owned her house, had some money saved, was getting along fine otherwise. Health insurance for her, just major medical with a huge deductible, would've been $1200/month. She lived on less than that. She paid for her doctor visits and meds out of pocket, but didn't feel she could afford the insurance. She got sick, needed surgery, then had complications and was in ICU for 4 months where her condition deteriorated and then she died. Part of the reason she worsened was worry...over the money, the hospital bill. She was afraid she was going to be wiped out and they were going to take her house. She just gave up hope.

If she could have gotten major medical coverage for $300-400 a month she would've jumped on it. That is why I am in favor of this universal health plan where people can buy coverage through the government's health plan.

Because people who want universal healthcare are looked as being lazy and poor. Just mentioning the world "welfare" gets some people looking at you like a bag of dirt because "they're taking my tax money away" It's that typical "let them eat cake" mindset that's holding America back because they're too fucking glued on their asses watching crap like American Idol or Maury Povich or Judge Judy or other crap that rots the brain and think gay people marrying is more important than their own well being.

Yes I fucking hate living in this country sometimes.

On this weeks Bill Maher, he did a whole bit at the end of the show about how California got into this mess.

How they govern by ballot initiative, and they have voted over and over to spend money on things they wanted but have never voted to raise taxes to pay for them.

It was interesting, I'd post it, but I'm an idiot that can never get you tube videos up.

They should cut welfare for the people who are just abusing it and don't really need it. And they should start making sure that the people who are actually getting the financial aid for colleges really need it. Hell, when I was at school I couldn't get financial aid because they said my parents made too much money. But then there were people driving to school in Porsches and Lambroginis who were on financial aid. I was like WTF?

But you're not low-income, so it's hard to make that comparison. Your financial situations aren't equal. Breaking the bank for you is different than breaking the bank for poor people. They would probably have to choose between food and healthcare. Unless you're in that situation then it's not comparable.

Are you ready kids? Arnie has proposed EVEN MORE cuts!

    On the chopping block:

-- Cut all state funding for state parks- ordering the closing of 80% of the state's parks- more than 200 would be closed.

-- $750 million from the University of California and California State University systems, bringing the total reduction over two fiscal years to nearly $2 billion.

-- $10.3 million - Eliminate all state general fund spending for UC Hastings College of Law.

-- $173 million - Eliminate new Cal Grants.

-- $247.8 million - Eliminate the Healthy Families program, which provides health care to nearly 1 million poor children.

-- $1.3 billion - Eliminate the CalWorks program, which primarily helps unemployed single mothers find jobs.

-- $809 million - Release nonviolent, non-serious, non-sex offenders one year early, and reduce the Corrections Department's contract work, rehabilitation and education programs.

-- $17 million- Eliminate funding for CAL-FIRE equipment replacement.

-- Eliminate ALL state funding for the Office of AIDS - including AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP), HIV counseling and testing, HIV education and prevention, etc.

-- Medi-Cal coverage for dialysis and for breast and cervical cancer treatment for those over age 65 would be cut. Undocumented immigrants would lose nonemergency health care.

-- In the prisons, rehabilitation, education and vocational programs would be hacked.

-- Reduce Medi-Cal Mental Health Managed Care Services- only acute inpatient services and prescription drugs will be covered.

Governor proposes deep cuts, with more to come
