we just got our daughter approved for Healthy Families medical dental insurance. Health insurance through hubs work would take out almost more than he makes. so needless to say we cant afford any medical insurance for our 15 yr old. Healthy Families was our best choice.

There ARE people in CA that really do need this program, such as ourselves.

Think of it this way. If eliminating welfare does'nt pay off, the working middle class will be next in line for a cut.

Cutting help for those that need it is never a good idea. Everyone takes a hit in their wallet.

Well I won't shed a tear if they ship those 19,000 illegal alien criminals back to their home country. Why should anybody have to pay for their incarceration in the U.S.? Send them back.

Wow, there are some cold-hearted people here. I understand about having to break the bank to pay for health care, but at least you have money to pay for it. People on welfare cannot afford up to $600. to $1,000 a month for health care. There are better solutions.
If I can't be a good example, then let me be a horrible warning.

how the hell can health insurance cost between 600 and 1000 a month??? you know your healthcare system is FUCKED when that is the case.
even in switzerland, where health insurance is mandatory, it's never more than 400-450 a month and this is for all private care with heaps of benefits. and salaries in switzerland are much higher than the US. and even then, there are much cheaper solutions for those who can't afford private care, and unemployed or poor people get subsidised by the state.

Yes, our healthcare system is fucked. I pay almost $600/month for me and my two boys, plus co-pays for every visit, pay extra for certain testing. So yeah, my out-of-pocket for 3 healthy people is probably between $7,000 and 8,000/year out of pocket. God help me if we ever got sick,.

For my husband and i to have insurance through his work, its 275 twice a month. to add our daughter, would jack it up another 122.00. we had to discuss who should have insurance and who wouldnt.

we had to go with covering me, since i have preexisting health conditions (diabetes, breast cancer, kidney disease, etc etc). it SUCKS big time, but what can we do about it right now?

AND because my cancer may be back, i have to get an MRI, which my copay for that is 300 bucks. nevermind that specialty doc copays just went up to 50 bucks a visit. BUT my copay for Percocet is 10 bucks. lmfao, priorities

I hate this state!! I'm so ready to get the fuck out of here. Healthcare in the US sucks in general. I'm a healthy, 39 year old woman and COBRA from my last job cost me $500 per month!!! For just me!!

there are many middle class people that have no insurance, because they can't afford the insurance payments.....and they earn too much to qualify for government funded plans.

they pay out of pocket for doctor visits and dentists.....and hope they don't get really sick

wait, i thought you meant 600-1000 per person. still, considering what wages are in the US, it's grossly disproportionate and expensive. it's insane!
in switzerland the max you'd pay is 400-450 per person, per month, for all private care. cheaper insurance is available from 150 up for adults.
but keep in mind minimum wage in switzerland is around 3000 francs (a bit less than 2800US) a month (though there is no legal minimum wage in switzerland, no one legally makes less than 2500 francs or so a month).

Shit, I can't even get insurance. My husband doesn't get it through work so I have to buy our insurance through private companies. Half of them denied me and the other half jacked up the rates so high I couldn't afford it. I'm talking hundreds of dollars a month just for me to have the lowest plan available (i.e. I pay out of pocket for everything unless I have over $5,000 in medical bills).

For now, I pay out of pocket, go to the clinic for cheaper prices, go to planned parenthood for lower priced birth control and exams, visit the local university for doctor visits, etc. God fucking forbid I get hurt or seriously ill, I would go bankrupt. And I am not even living in poverty!!!

It's all because some bitch hit my car while I was pregnant and I was hospitalized and ended up with a "back injury" in my medical records. My back is fine, but it's considered a pre-existing condition that happened 2 years ago! They pull records for 5 years, so looks like I won't have insurance for another 3 years!!!!

Our healthcare is beyond fucked up.

A woman at Kaiser did me a massive favor and also shared some disturbing news with me. I called to ask questions about my application, and once she heard that I had (minor but long-term) health probs, she said 'don't even bother applying, you'll be rejected. And that rejection will go on your record.'

She explained that there is apparently some massive clearinghouse that tracks people who have been denied coverage among all the insurance companies. All the companies share informationw ith eachother. And once you are denied by 2 companies, you are booted into the high-risk pool and you're pretty much uninsurable.

I haven't researched it to verify if that's true but it sounds accurate. So this may have happened to you unfortunately.

Hand to fucking mouth, that's how. ANd the whole world thinks Americans are so rich. Our salaries say we should be, our cost of living says otherwise. Oh yeah, and those figures I quoted above do not include dental or vision. Tack on another 1-2 grand per year for that, plus whatever the braces my 13yo needs are going to cost me for the next 2-4 years, and then as soon as he gets those off my 9yo will be needing them, and then after that maybe I can afford to get my Invisalign or my Lasik...

Awesome.... it wouldn't shock me at all. Sucks pretty bad because I can't get any help through the government for insurance unless I am damn near homeless poor. In California if you make even $30,000 for 3-4 people you are too "rich" for any help. Meanwhile salaries aren't increasing (or you are losing your job/hours) and they are jacking up the price on everything- my sewer bill went up $600 and will increase $150/year for the next 3 years guaranteed, our DMV registrations have increased a shit load, the sales tax is now 9.25%...... my HOA went up an extra $100/month.... I don't have extra money coming in, FUCK!!!!!!
