The message I get from this article is,
as long as Bin Laden is still alive and kicking,
then Bush is a failure, 9/11 is not suitably
avenged, and the War on Terror will not end
    for the foreseeable future.

In my current signature, I include a quote from Harold Pinter,
who alludes to a modern-day war crime, committed against
a democracy, by the American CIA, under Kissinger and Nixon.

"So why does Al Qaida hate America for what it did in Chile?"

Because American imperialism is regrettably not limited to
Chile, or South America, or Central America. Consider Pinter's words:

"The United States had brought down the democratically elected
government of Guatemala in 1954 and it is estimated that
over 200,000 people had been victims of successive military dictatorships....

The United States finally brought down the Sandinista government [in
Nicaragua]. It took some years and considerable resistance but
relentless economic persecution and 30,000 dead finally undermined
the spirit of the Nicaraguan people. They were exhausted and
poverty stricken once again. The casinos moved back into the country.
Free health and free education were over. Big business returned
with a vengeance. Democracy had prevailed.

But this policy was by no means restricted to Central America.
It was conducted throughout the world. It was never-ending.
And it is as if it never happened.

The United States supported and in many cases engendered every
right-wing military dictatorship in the world after the end of the Second
World War. I refer to Indonesia, Greece, Uruguay, Brazil, Paraguay, Haiti,
Turkey, the Philippines, Guatemala, El Salvador, and, of course, Chile. The
horror the United States inflicted upon Chile in 1973 can never be purged and
    can never be forgiven.
In the 1950s -- 1953, if I recall -- the CIA overthrew a democracy in
Iran, and replaced it with the reigning Shah of Iran. Those of us who
lived through the American hostage crisis had no idea what kind of
machinations were going on behind the scenes, and neither did the
US hostages -- they were civil servants, pencil pushers, secretaries.
One day, men are pointing guns in their faces. "What did we ever
do to you?" they might ask...but they should have been asking the
CIA, who controlled the Shah and were implicitly responsible for his
    human rights violations.

Nice post, Ourman. Well said and good points.

As far as what I meant by 'pulling your head out', even if it did refer to someone's nether regions rather than the sand an ostrich allegedly sticks its head into when it sees something it would rather not, it still, in my opinion, would not be considered a personal attack. The inference is the same.

Nice post ourmaninBusan. I never heard of Pinter.I will look into him. I also admire Naom Chomsky who also criticizes the U.S. and their atrocious foreign policies. Naom Chomsky actually has the balls to call the U.S. the leading terrorist nation in the world.

Pinter gave an incredible Nobel speech the other day. A link to it is posted in the US politics section.

The thing is, there are more and more Americans who are openly bashing the current administration and at some point, the pro-bushies are going to have to realize that we can't ALL be anti-american, anti-patriotic asswipes. We might just actually have real problems with what the admin is doing in our names. And that it is our right as Americans to point this out as much and as often as we'd like. IF repugs don't like it, too bad.
