I'm an Independent. I'm fiscally conservative and socially moderate/liberal, I tend to fall middle of the road. I don't think Dems are tough enough on crime and I think they often spend way too much on social programs, and I think Repubs are often way off on foreign policy, social policy, and are often more of a "one-issue" type of voter (gay rights, abortion, etc.) Thats not a blanket statement as much as something I've noticed personally, so please don't take that the wrong way. I do think there are a few of these as Democrats as well, just not as many. Abortion seems to be a "trigger topic" for Republicans and often the first thing some people come up with when they are asked why they are Republican. They are willing to overlook many other things for the sake of the anti-abortion issue. I can never find a candidate that I am completely 100% behind, much like most people. I did vote Obama and I would vote Obama again in a heartbeat. I was open to McCain until the Sarah Palin pick. Again I think that was a massive blunder on the Republican side to pander to the Christian conservatives, and you lost all of the Independents who were straddling the fence. I think that Republicans need to fight to reclaim their party. Its become too much about social conservatism and Christian fundies, and then you have the fiscal conservatives who are fighting to even be heard. The Christian right has really hijacked the whole party, and I'm not convinced they are even the majority. Its kind of baffling to watch. Its sad because the Republican party has been hijacked and is almost a bit of a national joke because of the outspoken racists and extremists. I think most reasonable Republicans can see this. I have many great, intelligent Republican friends who are frustrated as well with their party right now and feel as if they have been marginalized, they are hanging in there with the hopes that their party can experience change. I don't say this as a vindication of the Democratic party, far from it. They are far from perfect. But the Republican party either needs to splinter or show everyone else that idiots like Rush, Ann Coulter, etc. are not the voice of your party. I do hope you can reclaim it, because I do think there are some good aspects to the Republican party as well, something that is often overlooked because some of your other social policies. The fundie Christians/extremists/nutjobs just need to splinter off, because I don't think there is much hope there. And I can say that as a Christian myself. I would be ashamed to call myself a Republican these days, and thats really sad, because overall I want Americans to have options that they feel good about. Right now I feel like I have one option if I want my vote to count, and I'm not entirely happy with that. I do not believe in any way shape or form that voting one way or the other fundamentally makes you a racist, homophobe, asshole, weak-willed, etc. Those traits MAY provoke you to vote a certain way, but more often than not I think people are just trying to measure the things that are most important to them and vote accordingly. I can't fault them for that until they personally show me they are a bigot, asshole, etc. I'm not going to lump everyone into some big ol' lump of crap.

^ as a sidenote to that, the christian fundies didn't hijack Republicanism.. the "moderates" invited them in, pandered to them, to get the votes to win. The "sane" ones caused their own demise.

I know several "fence sitters" who were McCain supporters until he chose Gov. Palin to be his running mate. Many people I know would have loved to have seen Leiberman run this year.

That would have been me. I was leaning McCain until the Palin fiasco, but then I knew nothing about president Obama at that time. I did my research after that impossible Palin pick.

For the record, I'm neither Repub or Dem, mostly a centrist. I vote for the individual I think is more qualified regardless of party lines. Drives my dad crazy, LOL. (not to mention grimm)

No, I heartily endorse that strategy. That's how it should be.

yes, but anybody who voted for Sarah Palin thinking she was the most qualified for the job (or even mentally capable) gets a slapping.

^^ what can I tell you ... I voted for her. do your worst

There was not one person that was all that great in this past election truthfully. I should have stayed independent but there was no one left in the race at the end, and they were not so great either. sigh....

There was a photography thread in highschool somewhere; it's super super super super old.

Hate the political parties; I think it's all bullshit. I vote for libertarians, democrats and republicans (hell maybe even a socialist if I like what they're saying) but I still roll my eyes every fucking time I vote.
KILLING ME WON'T BRING BACK YOUR GOD DAMNED HONEY!!!!!!!!!!

Come on, let's have lots of drinks.

Fuck you all, I'm going viral.
