I had issues filling out the race section. I wrote in for Person #1: 1/4 German (white), 1/4 Yaqui, 1/4 Scottish (white), 1/4 Navajo.

    Person #2: 1/2 Person #1 1/2 German (white).

Seriously, they still use that word? Have they not updated it since the 1960?

I better take another look at what I filled out because it did request much more than just who lives in my house.

Because some people call themselves "Negro." Remember that this counts everyone living in the US, which means it can cover recent immigrants who may not have an extensive understanding of the negative American connotations with the word "Negro."

I think it's more likely blacks who were born in the US before about 1930 or so who would consider themselves Negros.

^ True. But either way, it's covering a part of the population that refers to themselves with that word, and that's why it's there.

Yes, 10 or 20 years from now, there wouldn't be as many people referring to themselves as Negros.

I guess people who were already paranoid to begin with (tea-baggers, neo-conservatives, people like stormfront members) might find the census really suspicious... but I seriously doubt the government is going to stockpile this information as a means of surveillance or whatever and bust it out again in 20 years to use it against you. I was always under the impression that it was a statistically-relevant assessment tool to gauge population demographics... if people don't want to fill it out what's the point then? I imagine at some point they might even make it mandatory if this is such a widespread sentiment.
