Probably not. I'm not a real conservative anyway. I'm socially liberal and politically conservative. I don't care who anyone fucks as long as everyone consents and is over 18. I disagree with abortions performed after the first trimester but have no problem with early abortions or abortion pills - parents MUST be notified. I believe marriage is a specific designation for a legal union between one man and one woman. I believe illegal aliens are only looking to improve their lot in life but they are still illegal aliens and as such are detrimental to the economy and disrupt the political environment. European countries deport ALL illegal aliens - even legal aliens in most european countries aren't given full citizenship and do not have the right to vote. Try immigrating to Denmark or Sweden sometime. I think women deserve equal rights and compensation in every case in every place on earth. I have 3 daughters, ages 23, 20, and 2 - they should be able to go anywhere in the world they want without fear of losing their human rights. I believe in equality for all people - tolerance is the ONLY answer to that end. I don't believe in socialism, communism, or coersed collective work ethic. Conservative politics means fiscal responsibility and defending personal freedom to me. I want government to stay out of my business, out of my bedroom, and to keep it's laws away from my right to self determination. Is that bad?
Well, conservative politics haven't exactly been living up to your definition. One, the Republicans were anything but fiscally conservative over the last 8 years, which is why we're in this economic mess. And two, the Republicans/conservatives haven't been staying out of people's bedrooms or supporting personal freedoms or determination.

The conservatives are still trying to overturn abortion, dictate what people do in their bedrooms, shredded the Constitution at every turn to illegally spy on citizens without warrants, and then there was the little matter of Terri Schiavo. So, while you keep bashing Obama as a socialist/communist, you should take a hard look at what the conservative movement has been doing for the last decade or so. Because the current incarnation of the conservative movement is to demonize anything or anyone that isn't a hardcore, religious nutjob which is/was bordering on facism.

Perceptions are everything aren't they? Looking beyond what we want to see to see what is actually there is hard when we're deeply invested in a position.

I read your post and the part that struck me is it's high level of animus and intolerance. If I was an alien just arriving to Earth I'd think you were talking about your mortal enemy - maybe you were.

Politics has become so combative it's ripping the country apart. I believe a real civil war with real violence is the next step if the rhetoric doesn't subside.

There are legitimate debates to be had about whether abortion is killing babies - denying that is intolerant.

There's little argument about whether a brain dead person should be kept on life support. I'm sorry if you feel there is but I don't see it nor do I believe any political party wants to kill disabled people.

There is a legitimate debate to be had about the level of domestic surveillance that is legal and/or necessary.

One question - if an Al Queda suicide bomber manged to sneak into a college football game last season (before the election) and killed hundreds of innocent people how do you think that would have affected the election?

I believe you said Obama is an arrogant fool. That's not a "high level of animus and intolerance"?

You come on here with bombastic, incendiary statements, pissing people off, and now you want some kind of political debate? You're the one who started the combative rhetoric.

I suppose you don't see that. I hope nobody wastes their time trying to talk to you in an intelligent way. I sense a sociopath is at the wheel.

It's not like there are hundreds of conservatives here stepping all over one another to debate the issues. Why do you suppose I'm the only conservative poster in this thread? I haven't read much of the forum but I haven't seen any other conservative posts in any thread. I can leave this thread and everyone can continue it's one-sided dialogue if you want.

I got here accidentally anyway. I'm pretty sure I'll get banned soon so it really shouldn't matter what I have to say should it?

Continue your illogical ravings, if you chose. Now that people see the manipulative shit you're trying to pull, nobody's going to bother with you any more.

Hate on, dude. Hope you make it whatever country you're trying to escape to. Try not to ruin ours before you go.

Wah. Wah. Wah. Basically you can't defend your position on anything, so instead of engaging in dialogue and points other people have brought up you're running away.

What's ironic is that I keep hearing how Obama is promoting fascism.

You won't get banned, as long as you don't insult other members.

My post is filled with animus and intolerance? That's laughable coming from somebody who keeps accusing our president of being a socialist who wants to destroy capitalism. Not to mention brags about hiding assets off-shore so they don't have to pay taxes. But my post screams intolerence. I needed that laugh. Thanks.

As for your question about terrorists bombing a college football game, I don't know how it would've affected the election. It wouldn't have automatically meant a McCain win, since there was still the matter of Sarah Palin, who forced people to pay more attention to McCain's age than Obama's race, since she basically sank McCain's campaign.

One of the reasons why McCain lost was because when the financial crisis hit he was all over the place and couldn't show any real leadership. I doubt people's perceptions would have changed with a terrorist attack. Not to mention, that would've been the SECOND terrorist attack on a Republican president's watch, so that wouldn't have helped McCain either.

True. But the other trick is to either play the victim or try to make the discussion about you.
