Some of the insurance companies I represent are not american companies and do not do business in America but they do business with American Companies everyday thruout the rest of the world. There are tens of thousands of companies like mine who do business internationally and recieve revenue in foreign banks that no longer finds it's way back into American Banks. [Since Obama's election] This money is moving out of the dollar and into foreign currency investments - primarily Japanese Yen and Euros. Every penney that does not find it's way back to America is another hit to US Banks. America's extreme economic power built in the second half of the 20th century is it's free markets and entrepeneurs from all over the world willingness to take risks on the most level financial playing field and fair business environment in the history of the world.

Barack Obama thinks the stock market is oppressive and discriminates against poor people because they don't participate in it very much. *chuckles* He thinks that position is viable - even popular. *LAUGHS OUT LOUD* You can think this thru from here for yourself.
And I am a surgeon. What does either have to do with anything?

Is it possible I'm the only conservative here?

Probably not. I'm not a real conservative anyway. I'm socially liberal and politically conservative. I don't care who anyone fucks as long as everyone consents and is over 18. I disagree with abortions performed after the first trimester but have no problem with early abortions or abortion pills - parents MUST be notified. I believe marriage is a specific designation for a legal union between one man and one woman. I believe illegal aliens are only looking to improve their lot in life but they are still illegal aliens and as such are detrimental to the economy and disrupt the political environment. European countries deport ALL illegal aliens - even legal aliens in most european countries aren't given full citizenship and do not have the right to vote. Try immigrating to Denmark or Sweden sometime. I think women deserve equal rights and compensation in every case in every place on earth. I have 3 daughters, ages 23, 20, and 2 - they should be able to go anywhere in the world they want without fear of losing their human rights. I believe in equality for all people - tolerance is the ONLY answer to that end. I don't believe in socialism, communism, or coersed collective work ethic. Conservative politics means fiscal responsibility and defending personal freedom to me. I want government to stay out of my business, out of my bedroom, and to keep it's laws away from my right to self determination. Is that bad?

Uh again, for the hundredth time, HOW DOES THAT CORRELATE WITH THE LAST 8 YEARS OR MOST OF THE 80's

'conservative politics' do not stand for what you just noted. In fact, in practice, it's been the exact opposite.

So how do you get that to make sense in your head

A counterpoint that deserves a reply - I'm not 31 as my profile says. No other explanation is forthcoming.

The last 8 years saw enormous economic expansion and millions of jobs were created. Two major events will mark those years for history to glean painful important lessons:

    1. 9/11. It was and is an unprecedented display of how much damage and dealth can be caused by a tiny dedicated few in modernity. It was a wake up call for America that if given the opportunity these same dedicated men would have unleashed the power of a nuclear weapon upon New York City if they had the opportunity - and many are actively seeking to do just that. Men like these are a new kind of enemy - Enemies who would rather lose their lives trying to kill us than negotiate. This kind of enemy can't be stopped by any means but violence. This fact hasn't changed.

    2. THE CREDIT CRUNCH. The free flow of credit in this decade surpassed the public's ability to repay it creating a bubble that burst in the summer of 2008. It's causes are very simple and basic. Banks lent more than they could afford to lose, the economy went into a normal cyclical recession, and poor performing loans overwhelmed profits from well performing loans. The entire financial sector is upside down in loans they can't write off - and here we are.

It seems to me that you believe that America is a toilet that you use for your own financial gain and wipe your ass with its flag unless you're getting everything that you want and think you deserve.

Uh, the economic expansion was based on smoke and mirrors. It was FAKE. It was a short term cash grab based on NOTHING.

Oh, and those 'jobs' he created?

4.8 million which have been susequently stripped away.. and they were fucking MCJOBS to begin with! Jobs that didn't pay a living wage. Bush has the worst jobs creation record in 40 years.

How many jobs did Clinton create?

    23 MILLION.

I'm sorry, and how does that exactly relate to the abandonment of the very institutions that make America "free"? You know, the constitution that Bush blithely referred to as "that goddamned piece of paper"?

If you abandon what makes your society an object of attack, then you have handed victory to your opponent. Also, violence hasn't solved a damn thing.. brute military power has not dealt a deathblow to terrorism, in fact Bush's little jaunt in to Iraq has increased their ranks about 10fold. Afghanistan is seeing a Taliban resurgence. In order to defeat terror cells, it might be good to take a page from the brits or Israeli's.. police work, investigation, targets strikes.

Poor performing loans?? Try a cycle of absolute unfettered greed at the hands of deregulated financial industry touted by Republicans as the best thing since sliced bread who sold awful mortgages, and then bundles them to be invested into, again, unregulated offshore hedge funds.

It's causes are very simple and basic. Banks lent more than they could afford to lose, the economy went into a normal cuclical recession, and poor performing loans overwhelmed profits from well performing loans. The entire financial sector is upside down in loans they can't write off - and here we are.
It is not cyclical! They invested poorly into markets that had no oversight and regulation into investment vehicles based on smoke and mirrors, offering fake returns that made no sense!

All on republican watch, with republican assent, and conservative praise!

So basically, you don't believe in public fire departments, public schools, public libraries, the interstate highway system, etc. If you don't believe in socialism, then your fire department would have to be a private company like an a insurance company, all schools would be private schools, there would be no public libraries--just private companies where you could rent books--and all roads would be toll roads.

Funny how "socialist" countries have enjoyed a higher standard of living for decades...
