Seriously ya'll, I'm thinking this comment means LOCATION not SEVERITY. Backyard to mean NOT 100 miles away, but where you ARE.

Maybe so equal, it just blew me away. Maybe it's the "pick something else" part that gave the comment its snarky flavor.

Why do people travel and expect to take their self-delusional, safety bubbles with them? The world is a dangerous place. If you don't want the risks, stay home.

"Golly, war broke out in the Middle East! I am so shocked!".....delusional.....

    *schhhhhnarrrrk schnarkkkkk*

I hear you. At the same time, I see aother HUGE similarity with the two. State Department gave warning not to travel there. Residents of NO were warned as well.

I don't know when the warning was issued, but the family has been in Lebanon since the end of June.

^ yeah so true; you think you're safe but you're not; far from it.

and yes that comment by Hankypanky was uneducated, un-researched and plain simple-minded, so i choose not respond. U cannot argue w/ the fact that thousands or millions of poor Black were ignored in our own country and still are being swept under the rug and ppl who chose to go to a country w/ thousands of years of war-ring are being immediately rescued w/ an insane fervor.

Maybe the government sent the ships to Lebanon to see if Hezbollah would take the 'bait' and attack Us ships. Then Bush and Cheney would then jizz their pants and have another excuse for another war. Hell they're that sneaky.

I really do not have a porblme with getting our citzens out of a country that's being blown up. However I too find it really fucked up that the US is acting so quickly on this when they failed to help citzens in OUR COUNTRY when they needed help. It screams that the govt. only cares about war and militraistic policies, but they don't focus (or care) about handling domestic issues HERE.

wow Mr., I like you're way of thinking; that is really really bright of you and not hard to believe, b/c the same thing happened in WWI; the US got involved and came out of our Isolationism when the Lusitania was torpedoed by those damn Germans (who I've never fully forgiven for what they did to my granddaddy & millions of others) and I wouldn't put anything past our current administration when it comes to war-starting, $, and oil.....

    HISTORY LESSON KIDDIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A number of US citizens are being left behind, there's an article on it somewhere. The thinking around this is that they'll be obliterated and give the US an excuse to kick the shit out of Syria/Lebanon
I am from the American CIA and I have a radio in my head. I am going to kill you.

The second email, this time from Jordan:

E-mail just came in from them in Amman, Jordan (a relatively safe place, all in all).

"20 min after we arrived at the Lebanese/Syrian border bombs went off in the area we had just been driving through. This had a galvanizing effect on the Lebanese border police, who conferred temporary Lebanese citizenship on all of us and waved us through."
