^ I will say that I think the African-American community is getting unfairly blamed for the passing of Prop. 8. To me, it's just an angle the news picked because they think it makes for an interesting story.

Yes, African-Americans may have voted as a group proportionally more for it than, say, whites, but that doesn't mean it's solely their fault. There were probably more white people that voted for it than African-Americans, so why not blame them instead?

Blaming one minority group for not supporting another just makes a good news story. And, let's face it, American news isn't that well known for its in-depth analysis.

No, but a much HIGHER proportion of that particular community did vote to strip people of their rights.. that indicates that within such a community, the level of bigotry is much higher. That's worrisome.

Imagine for a minute if blacks were the majority, and still carried that proportionately higher rate of voting for bigotry. It would be like most whites voting for the KKK.

Ironically, California is a minority-majority state. I don't know the exact percentages regarding population in the state, but I find it ironic that minorities make up the majority of the state population yet voted to marginalize another minority group for whatever reason.

I still think the easiest demographic to cite for the passage of Prop 8 is the old people. It was the older people in every white, latino, black, asian and etc, demographic that voted for Prop 8. Which means that in 2, 4 or 6 years, passing gay marriage in California will work for sure regardless of whether or not the CA Supreme Court knocks it down or not.
