Wink Sarah Palin gets dumped by GOP for Newt Gingrich

She was in. She was out. She had been asked. She hadn't been asked. She knew about it. She didn't know about it.

There was lots of drama surrounding the keynote speaker at the big, big GOP House and Senate fundraiser later this year. Now we know that it's not Sarah anymore:

Sarah Palin will no longer headline a major Republican dinner in June, a Republican official told CNN Tuesday.

Former House speaker Newt Gingrich will replace Palin as the keynote speaker at a joint fundraising dinner held by the campaign committees of Senate and House Republicans.

The scheduling change follows a communications breakdown between Palin's political staff and her aides in Alaska that left the dinner's organizers unsure the Alaska governor would actually attend the Washington event.

These days, Republicans can't even pull off a fundraising event without screwing it up. Fundraisers used to be the one thing they really knew how to do. Good thing they're no longer running the country.

Oh, in case you were wondering, Newt's a Catholic now. He's anti-choice and homophobic, so he'll fit right in with church leaders (they'll overlook those multiple divorces because they weren't Catholic ceremonies.) But, Newt is way out of touch with the average American Catholic.

They all deserve each other. I love watching the GOP implode.

Anything that blows up in Palin's face is always a good thing.

But Palin is the rising star of the GOP, and Newt's star is fading. In the long-run, Palin will win any battle with Newt, as long she's got the support of the conservative base.

The Fox story was much meaner:

Congressional Republicans decided Tuesday to ditch the former GOP vice presidential nominee in favor of the former House speaker for the critical House-Senate fundraising dinner in June 8 in Washington. It's the marquee Republican event to raise money for GOP House and Senate candidates.

Just weeks ago, the House and Senate Republican campaign committees were giddy at securing the telegenic Palin for the dinner. But then things grew murky. At the time, the Alaska governor's office told FOX News that Palin was still considering the invitation and had not yet made a decision. Meantime, spokespersons for the committees insisted that Palin was scheduled and it was just a misunderstanding between the Alaska governor's office and Palin's political action committee, SarahPAC, that accepted the invite.

Sources familiar with the Palin snub fumed about how the governor handled this.

"She was a disaster," one Republican source told FOX News. "We had confirmation."

As for inviting Gingrich, National Republican Congressional Committee spokesman Ken Spain said the GOP "decided to go in another direction."

"Speaker Gingrich is a leader," Spain added.

Another source familiar with the invitation indicated that the campaign committees were so incensed with Palin that they did not even bother to officially notify her that they rescinded the invitation.

Multiple efforts to reach Palin's staff in Alaska for comment were unsuccessful.

The decision to book Gingrich instead of Palin seems to be indicative of growing discontent in the party with the Alaska governor and her potential ability to lead the GOP. And it's the latest in a series of gaffes that have plagued her since the November.

Palin withdrew at the last moment from speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference meeting in Washington earlier this year.

You know your star is starting to fall when you're replaced by Newt Fucking Gingrich. Who's the backup for Newt? Cheney or Joe the Plumber?

Newt has been the big winner in the GOP's recent and ongoing clusterfuck, IMO. Next to Palin etc. he looks positively statesmanlike. He represents the 'good old days' for the party.
