Wink Religious right isn't happy with Pres Obama, which means he's doing everything right

Um, he wasn't your candidate, and he doesn't represent your views. So tell me again how he has gone back on his word.

He called for reducing abortions and seeking common ground on one of the nation’s most divisive issues — promises that led some on the right to think maybe, just maybe, Barack Obama was a different kind of Democrat.

    But no more.

A series of decisions in the past two months — capped by an announcement Monday that he’s abolishing Bush-era limits on embryonic stem cell research — has led to a reassessment of Obama by some Christian conservative and other religious leaders, who now charge him with inflaming the very cultural divisions he once pledged to heal.

They really are good, the Republicans. Whether it's House Republican Whip Eric Cantor claiming that rescinding Bush's stem cell ban "distracts" us from the economy, or the religious right now claiming that lifting that particular ban somehow breaks some promise Obama made during the campaign. Basically, they won't be happy unless Obama becomes a Republican. And in the case of the Republican party and the religious right, they won't be happy - period.

The danger here is that the religious right, including Catholic activists, are playing Obama. They know he wants to be loved by the right, and they know that he went particularly out of his way to woo religious conservatives. The hope is that by whining about how much he's betrayed them, perhaps they can get Obama to veer more to the right on "culture war" issues.

Interestingly, the media seems to already be buying the bull. This from Politico:

And at a time when Obama’s bid to seek greater bipartisanship on Capitol Hill already has run into serious obstacles, Monday’s decision seemed to put even greater distance between himself and top congressional Republicans.

Yes, Obama's position on stem cell research, which was clearly laid out during the campaign, a campaign that he won a hearty mandate with, only NOW puts him at odds with Republicans, and in fact, it's Obama's fault that Republicans won't find his policies the same as, say, John McCain's or Rush Limbaugh's.

Why does Obama insist on wrecking bipartisanship by being a Democrat?

AMERICAblog News| A great nation deserves the truth
It still amazes me that when a Republican is in the white house, the media doesn't ask ANY questions at all. They just repeat what they're told to.

When a Dem gets in, suddenly it's claws out.

What mistakes have Obama made, real ones? The Media basically helped Bush and Co. lie us into an illegal war! They didn't question him, and the people who questioned him or spoke out against him were called unpatriotic!!

Uh, the media did shit all to Bush for 7 years. They were basically a mouthpiece for administration propaganda. Not one iota of questioning regarding the Iraq war. No investigative journalism whatsoever. The press abdicated their entire responsibility because they were afraid of being called "unpatriotic".

They went entire YEARS of just repeating press releases of the Bush admin! There have been whole studies done on this phenomenon. Only in the last year or 2, when Bush's approval tanked, did they find their balls again.

Bush should be rightly blamed for everything he's done. He is NOW. He wasn't when it was happening. That was the problem.

I don't understand why right-wingers are linking abortion with stem-cell research. Don't they use leftover fertilized embryos from fertility clinics that would be thrown out anyway? How does that have ANYTHING to do with abortion?

it has nothing to do with it, it's just politico.com (right leaning bullshit site) trying to connect issues that have nothing in common to start shit.

I have trouble understanding that, too. They would rather see them thrown out than potentialy help another suffering human being? And do they not have loved ones that might be helped by this? Why put your families & friends below an unwanted embryo, maybe even yourself. I fail to see the logic.

he's moving to regulate offshore acounts in tax havens like Cayman Islands, bring regulation to hedge funds, and close loopholes for tax cheats. I would know. I work in this business.

How about saying he would let people read the bills before they voted on them?
... the people in government? He did. Republicans chose to not support his stimulus bill BEFORE EVEN READING IT.

How about the fact he is closing Gitmo? Releasing terrorist, yeah, that's a great idea!
He's closing GITMO because it's a Soviet style gulag and illegal. he's not releasing terrorists, he's moving them to US soil to be tried in the US justice system... instead of being locked up, indefinitely, without being charged with a crime, and without access to any kind of legal defense. That's called FASCISM. There have been people there, scooped up all over the world, locked in a cell and not even told what they've done for YEARS. How is that right?

How about Chavez telling Obama to come out of the Socialist Closet?
Who cares what Chavez thinks? Half the time he thinks the US is ready to invade, the rest of the time he's trying to sell poor people in the US oil. The guy isn't exactly stable.

How bout the whole stem cell thing...in case you didn't know, a lot of time, those cells cause tumors or cancer. There was a reason why embryonic stem cell research was shit canned the first time!
That is absolute BULLSHIT. Total and utter fabrication. Stem cell research was only shitcanned in the US because Bush wanted to appease the retard religious crazies. It's continued in Europe, Asia and the rest of the planet. Canada has been working hard at it all this time.

How about the fact that Obama is wiling to meet with terrorist world leaders without preconditions, but won't sit down for an interview with anyone from Fox or Limbaugh..hum,
Uh, Obama gave his first campaign interview to FOX news. Maybe you missed it? Oreilly tried to grill him, but Obama bested him easily? It's on youtube!

Secondly, yes, it's called DIPLOMACY. Years of military might has done nothing but increase terrorist numbers, it's turned Iraq into a terrorist playpen/training ground where there wasn't before the invasion, and Afghanistan is seeing a Taleban resurgence. Might has failed. Talking could work.

why is he scared of them? how about the 90 million going to Gaza inthe "Stimulus" Bill? How do that stimulate our economy?! Tons of things he is doing wrong!
Are you completely ignorant of world politics? 90 million to help gaza (a drop in an ocean, the stimulus bill was around 800 billion) to alleviate starvation and poverty, helps public opinion in the middle east be more favorable to the US, helps diplomacy, helps find a solution to the mess, increases US leverage between 2 parties to help find a diplomatic solution, increases US prestige in that area, leads to wider investment.

Yes, Bush made lots of mistakes. No arguments there. But Bush is gone, and now Obama is in charge. And he is making mistakes. All the articles about Michelle in a soup kitchen aren't going to fix that.
Again, what mistakes? All the ones you listed are total lies.

That's a complete fabrication. Back it up.

That is not transparency. Our represenatives need to READ what they are voting on. Period. It wasn't realeased, so it didn't get read.
    Again, fabrication. Back it up.

It was directly against what he said he would do.
    Again, back it up.

Oh wait, let me disprove you instead.

(CNN) -- The U.S. Senate gave final approval Friday to a $787 billion recovery package that President Obama hopes will help boost an economy in freefall with a combination of government spending and tax cuts and credits.

Approved earlier by the House, the plan -- which went through multiple permutations as it bounced back and forth on Capitol Hill over the past week -- now goes to Obama's desk, where he plans to sign it into law by Presidents Day.

As had been the case when the original version of the package passed, the stimulus package garnered no Republican support in the House. The compromise legislation, which was hammered out by House and Senate leaders and White House staff over the past several days, passed in the House on a 246-183 vote.

yeah, they haggled over a bill and each line of it without reading it, for weeks? What an amazing set of superpowers.

Several of the people his cabinet have not payed their taxes. That has nothing to do with the Caymans.
They had some back taxes that amounted to a pittance, which they paid once they were vetted. Big fucking deal. How about the billions in tax revenue hidden in offshore accounts by the same filthy rich republicans?

The stem cells from embryos causing cancer was reported about a boy who received treatment IN EUROPE. IT CAUSED TUMORS UP AND DOWN HIS SPINE AND BRAIN. Stem Cell Research Cures
Omg one instance! Well, shut it all down then! And would you stop quoting that bullshit organization? it's not a viable source. It's a christian nutjob group.

how about the 90 million going to Gaza inthe "Stimulus" Bill?
Someone fill me in here. I had some person IRL tell me that and I was like WTF? And when I got home I pulled up the stimulus bill link on recovery.gov and did a search for "gaza" and "Israel" and nothing was found? So I didn't see it in there. Isn't this more of the mythology and B.S. surrounding the stimulus bill? No one can seriously tell me they've read the entire thing all the way through.

I think Obama has more important things to do than talk to a man who has openly said he wants him to fail as POTUS.

Just cuz he could doesn't mean he should. What political gain would he get by lowering himself to blow some radio retard out of the water?

Better to just mock him from his ivory tower.

Why not beat him down in public so his many followers will see Rush for the ignorant piece of shit he is?
That would be better progress in the right direction.

No, it's easier and better to pit Rush against.., well, everybody else in the GOP.. and have them eat each other instead and demonstrate how out of touch, disorganized and stupid conservatism is.

No splashback on your expensive suit. Rush is too much of an egomaniac to avoid it, that's why it's awesome. He plays right into it.
