Angry Republican strategy: Drive down Dem poll numbers. Who cares about America.

Well that's one way to focus like a laser beam on the economy. Not to focus on it at all. From the Plum Line:

GOP Rep. Patrick McHenry, a key player in helping craft the Republican message, has offered an unusually blunt description of the Republican strategy right now.

McHenry’s description is buried in this new article from National Journal (sub. only):

“We will lose on legislation. But we will win the message war every day, and every week, until November 2010,” said Rep. Patrick McHenry, R-N.C., an outspoken conservative who has participated on the GOP message teams. “Our goal is to bring down approval numbers for [Speaker Nancy] Pelosi and for House Democrats. That will take repetition. This is a marathon, not a sprint.”

McHenry’s spokesperson, Brock McCleary, tells me his boss is standing by the quote.

I guess when you're guaranteed a government-paid salary of $170k or so a year - and get a raise just two months ago - you can afford to focus on more important things than the health of the nation.

It still amazes me, for some reason, that idiots like these, with so much hate and disdain, can get anywhere in politics.

Repetition. Good way to make people start ignoring what you're saying. Just some advice, congressional Republicans.

I'm surprised they're so naked and open about it - if I were going to sabotage every initiative a new administration was taking, I'd at least be subtle and sneaky about it. Like I'd say I was going along with it. These people care nothing for the constituents who elected them - do they not realize they are screwing the people in their very states, the folks who elected them who now are probably foreclosing on their homes, selling their cars, moving in with relatives and applying for the same job as 250 other people? They obviously don't. I'm mesmerized by their overt stupidity.

It's one thing to oppose legislation because you genuinely disagree with it. It's a whole other level when you oppose it just because you're a miserable fuck (which Republicans generally). But it reaches all sorts of levels of utter assholeness when you do so while the citizens of your country are suffering immensely because of your stupid party.

I hope the Republicans keep digging themselves whole. It will be the end of them.

Once again, the GOP proves that they aren't putting 'country first.'

It's hurting the Republicans more than it's hurting Obama or the Dems.
