Sarah Palin backs out CPAC Conference; Michele Bachman will still go (phew!)

Breaking news is that Sarah Palin has pulled out of her scheduled appearance at the conservative CPAC conference. She had preiously confirmed her appearance to speak on Thursday, February 26 at 4:30pm. Now, if you check the schedule online, there’s a big fat hole right between

Where there used to be mention of SarahPalin, now….nothing.

The opening-day headliner for the annual CPAC conservative convention February 26-28, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, has pulled out, citing state business in Juneau. “We’re obviously disappointed,” said a CPAC official. A spokesman for the three-day confab, organized by the American Conservative Union Foundation and others, said that Palin, the popular former vice presidential nominee, had indicated she would be able to attend but cited “duties of governing” in bowing out. Instead, she will send in a taped message. The Democrats up there have been grumbling about her being out of state so much. Maybe she figured she could either get away for the Alfalfa Dinner or CPAC but not both and had to make a hard choice.

Obviously they haven’t heard about the Republicans who have been grumbling. But no matter. At least they can console themselves in the fact that if they just hang on a little while past Palin’s scheduled time, they can enjoy the “Presidential Banquet” with emcee Michelle Bachman. (shudder)

Things are apparently getting a bit “warm” in the Governor’s mansion, or Wasilla, wherever our capital happens to be this week. Her jaunt to D.C. with an appearance at the Alfalfa Club, and her dinner date with GOP fundraiser Fred Malek during the short 90-day legislative session didn’t play well in Alaska.

And there will undoubtedly be a great deal of fallout from today’s resignation of her Attorney General Talis Colberg as a result of nefarious goings on in the Troopergate ethics investigation.

Not sure why she didn’t realize she had “duties of governing” when she committed to speak in the first place.
