Default Caroline Kennedy reportedly interested in taking over Hillary Clinton's Senate seat

Caroline Kennedy interested in HRC seat - First Read - msnbc.com

CAROLINE KENNEDY INTERESTED IN HRC SEAT
Posted: Friday, December 05, 2008 1:24 PM by Domenico Montanaro
    Filed Under: Congress

    From NBC’s Andrea Mitchell

New York State Democratic Party sources tell NBC News that Caroline Kennedy has expressed interest in the New York Senate seat being vacated by Hillary Clinton.

She is known to have discussed the upcoming vacancy with New York Gov. David Paterson, who will be appointing the next senator to serve the remaining two years in Clinton’s term once she becomes Secretary of State.

Appointing Caroline Kennedy to the seat once held by her uncle Robert would be a very popular choice politically for Paterson, who is under pressure to replace Clinton with a woman.

The Kennedy name on the ballot could help Paterson’s 2010 reelection chances. Paterson became governor after Eliot Spitzer was forced to resign during a prostitution scandal.

Caroline Kennedy would also have an advantage in being able to raise money for the very expensive New York Senate contest.

Other contenders -- if Kennedy is not chosen -- include be congress members Kirsten Gillibrand (from an Upstate district) and Carolyn Maloney (NYC), Nassau County Executive Thomas Suozzi and New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo is also a possible contender.

Kennedy's cousin -- Robert Jr., an environmentalist, has taken himself out of contention.

If she's interested, she'd probably be a shoe-in based on nostalgia alone.

I can't believe it. She's spent her entire life avoiding politics.

Since Clinton just won her second term as senator in 2006, there's 4 years left in the term. Someone will be appointed to serve out her term and then the election for that office will be held in 2012.

^Actually the appointment will be for two years with a special election expected in 2010. Caroline is probably the person...Obama's camp has a history of floating names out to the public and then reviewing public sentiment and opinion. Everyone is basically saying Kennedy would be a great pick. She's totes in!

Oh, and I think she would consider it this time just to get to work with Obama...she was/is a huge supporter.

Caroline Kennedy makes more sense than some of the other names being mentioned. Hope she gets it.

Why won't this family go away!!!! Why does she get a shot at that seat without experience. Oh yeah, the same way Hillary got it.

This is why I HATE politics.

i think she must be incredibly intelligent b/c she put her name behind Barack from the start before anyone else saw what potential he had. she probably just has that Kennedy intuition about politics.

Well, lets not forget she's a lawyer with a degree from the same University as our new President and has written several scholarly books on the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, as well as being a long time New Yorker. We here in NY could do worse. Have you seen her on the talk shows when she was promoting her books, she's highly intelligent and well educated.

^^ Completely agree. She'd do great.

For some reason it made me think of JFK Jr. and how he avoided politics. I miss looking at him.
