Default Shepard Smith disputes argument that media won election for Barack Obama

Via HotAir/Salon, here's Shepard Smith at his arch and acidic best, pushing back against the contention of comedian Nick DiPaolo that the media was "in the tank" for Barack Obama. I think you'll agree that Smith manages to make a lot of sense!

"Oh, please...the mainstream media reflected what was happening in this nation. It did not drive it. The blogs didn't drive this movement. The media didn't drive this movement. Barack Obama did not lose this election. It was his to lose, it was not John McCain's to win. The Republicans had no shot unless the Democrats gave it to them, and they didn't. And to blame the media is a cop out and ridiculous. We are always here to be blamed by people like you who enjoy that activity. We always will be. When the Democrats lost last time, it was our fault. When the Republicans lost this time, it was our fault. It's not."http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/11/12/foxs-shepard-smith-disput_n_143393.html

He wants to be on Obama's good side.... if he can get a few interviews in on behalf of Fox because he's nice then he saves the day.

Or he's trying to impress Murdoch by centering himself back to the centre. I think over the coming months there might be a few changes in Fox. But Shep has sometimes in the past gone against the fold - I think he doesnt believe half the shit they sprout but is probably told how to report via memos sent by Ailes.

I watched him on The Late Show with David Letterman shortly after Hurricane Katrina. I was impressed that Fox News had someone in their employment that actually seemed smart. He knows that if he wants to remain relevant, he needs to move his views to the center. Being a hard-core conservative journalist for the next four years is a quick way to get ignored for interviews and investigative reporting gigs.

Shepard Smith is the only one I can stand watching on Fox. He is the voice of reason. Having said that, are his days numbered?

Here's what the whiners don't get...

McCain/Palin ran a negative campaign. They did not have many optimistic moments. Every soundbite (and most of their own advertisements) were "My opponent" this and "my opponent that" it was almost never followed by this is why I disagree with him and this is what I (we) would do and why it makes more sense.

The Repub talking heads that appeared on "news" shows would be asked a question about McCain policy or something being reported and THEY DIDN'T ANSWER, they went on some negative diatribe about Obama & associations and trying to make implications without saying anything.

So, IF what the McCain campaign put out there was negative - how did they expect the media (mainstream, in the tank, tanked, gulfstream or even Fox) to create positivity out of their negative message????? Hell, the right said "Obama" way more frequently than the left ever did - it's called positive (or attempted negative) reinforcement.

Now, I'm not saying that Obama/Biden didn't have some moments, but they always repeated what their message was and they never stooped to tit for tat but they did adress every matter that came up (much of the salacious gossip was addressed in the primary when the Repubs weren't even paying attention) and they made their message the center point of their campaign while McCain/Palin made their message about trying to denegrate Obama. I wonder who will win of those opposing approaches about everytime?

Shepard Smith must have hit his head. Since when is he rational? Something is up with him.

I just read at DU that recently signed a huge deal with Fox news- I think he is happy to let rip what he is really thinking and knows change is a-coming.

I just wonder if Kannity and Butthead Oreally has a future there.

Who is DU? Sorry, but don't watch Faux enough to know most of their talking heads. Anyway, it would be great if a few of their big names were canned or quit and then went on the record, kind of like that guy did in a documentary a few years ago. Here's a clip:
