Barack Obama wins!!! Scholastic election
Newsvine - Kids' Vote Announced: Obama wins Scholastic News election poll
Kids' Vote Announced: Obama wins Scholastic News election poll
It's official. At least for the kids! The Scholastic Presidential Election Poll results are in: Democratic nominee Senator Barack Obama won with 57 percent of the vote, to 39 percent for Republican nominee Senator John McCain.
The poll was open to kids from grades 1 to 12 in Scholastic News and Junior Scholastic magazines. Almost 250,000 (a quarter of a million) kids voted by paper ballot or online at Scholastic news. The poll closed on October 10.
Since 1940, the results of the student vote have mirrored the outcome of the general election all but twice: In 1948, kids voted for Thomas E. Dewey over Harry S. Truman. In 1960, more students voted for Richard M. Nixon than for John F. Kennedy. In 2000, a majority of student voters chose George W. Bush, mirroring the Electoral College result, but not the result of the popular vote.

Having voted in these elections in school, I often based it on who was more popular or the candidate I thought was more familiar. So, I voted for Carter once and Reagan once. I'm from GA so Carter was a given at my school, but Reagan won by a landslide in 6th grade.

I like this since the kids have been correct in all but 2 elections. Most tend to vote based on how their parents will vote since it was what they hear at home. It's a good indicator of what will happen in 21 days!!

I remember voting in these in the 90s.
Ill keep my vote private because it's too shameful to reveal. Youthful indiscretion.

I voted for Bush in 2000 Actually, I had no idea who Bush or Gore were, but my grandpa (and the rest of my family) and students and their parents were for Gore so I changed my mind and said I was Gore, lol.

If people don't get out to the polls, it can't happen.
Today, the Catholic Church here sent threatening letters to all Catholics remindind them their soul was in jeopardy if they voted for any candidate voting for abortion. Scary.

Yea, I did too. I was in 5th grade and thought it was cool that he was from Texas. I can actually remember my mom and dad arguing about who they were going to vote for and I started chanting 'BUSH BUSH BUSH BUSH!'
I was a stupid kid.

You know I'm Catholic, if only on paper, but that makes me say FUCK the Catholic church for trying to influence the election like this. Does separation of church and state mean anything to those bitches? They should lose their tax-exempt status for shit like that.

LOL aww. I was in 6th grade. I had to write a report about the election or something? I don't even remember, but whatever it was I had to pick one candidate to write about/who I would vote for so I randomly chose Bush and my grandpa (who doesn't speak English that well, not miportant detail but...) who over looked my work and said to me 'Don't pick him [Bush]' and I was like 'why?' LOL. I told my mom he said that and told her I changed my mind cause granddad said so

The Law/ethics guy at one of the universities here said it was just over the acceptable line of separation and should be examined for loss of tax exempt status-but you know who would have to push it-the Repugs. Not happening.
Style-look out in San Antonio!

John Hagee is disgusting, McJag... but you're right.. if the republican party benefits from this, I'm sure they'll put the complaints rolling in at the bottom of the pile each time.
