"I've never been prejudiced in my life," said Sharon Fleming, 69, the wife of a retired coal miner, who spends hours at the union hall calling voters on behalf of Obama. "My niece married a black, and I don't have a problem with it. Now, I wouldn't want a mixed marriage for my daughter, but I'm voting for Obama."

I still do not understand why his race is an issue.
It should be his political beliefs by which people determine who they vote for...

I'm actually kind of heartened by this article. Although there are alot of ugly views, the fact that so many people are actually talking about race and supporting Obama means that something good is going on. As far as the racist columnist (suuuuuure he isn't racist), if McSame had any balls whatsoever he would can that guy from his team. I doubt we'll see that happen.

That is a typical mentality for those in the south who are oblivious to the fact they are racist. They swear they are not, but they don't want other cultures to become to personal, such as through marriage.

I know people can change and have seen it happen. I pray more people do.

You know. This always reminds me of that Chris Rock stand up.
Whoever you hate, your daughter ends up marrying.

    So you shouldn't hate anyone.

It's a typical mentality outside of the south, too. I've run into it too many times, especially at work. But, hey, as long as they can put their racial issues aside and vote for Obama, so be it.

Hey, I have been calling people in VA for a few weeks now, and they are a mix bunch. I've come in contact with, mean racist, nice racist, supporting Obama racist, McCain supporters, and overly excited Obama supporters...

So, I know VA will not be easy...
