Obama to House Dems: If Sanctions Fail, Israel Will Likely Strike Iran

Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, met with House Democrats yesterday, talking about his trip abroad and his observations.

Obama told the caucus, according to an attendee, "Nobody said this to me directly but I get the feeling from my talks that if the sanctions don’t work Israel is going to strike Iran." Others in the room recall this as well.

The notion that Israel is preparing for such an action against Iran's myriad nuclear facilities is not new, with conjecture heating up in May after an Israeli military exercise featuring 150 aircraft flying almost a thousand miles over the Mediterranean Sea in what was seen as a dress rehearsal for an air strike. Now that the Bush administration is engaged in diplomatic efforts with Iran, many Israeli officials are worried the US is getting soft on Iran, prompting Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak to travel to the US this week to meet with Defense Secretary Robert Gates, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, and National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley. Barak's office released a statement saying "a policy that consists of keeping all options on the table must be maintained."

Another attendee at the meeting of House Democrats recalls Obama saying that the good news is that Obama got the sense that the Arab states understand just how destabilizing a nuclear Iran would be -- a "game changer," Obama said -- because they know Israel would probably strike and that would be bad for everyone.

A senior adviser to Obama told ABC News that Obama was heartened to hear Jordan's King Abdullah share that view with him in their private meeting.

The Obama campaign had no comment.

Well someone has obviously not heard the words, loose lips sink ships. I wonder how Israel feels about Obama now that he has taken conversations and turned them into 'feelings'.

Why not just go talk to the Iranians, Obama? You don't think they're a threat anyway. Or was that yesterday. Maybe tomorrow?

Considering that Obama is a senator, and running for president, that puts him in the position to speak out on his concerns about what may happen.

And if Israel strikes out at Iran, then America is definitely going to get drawn into that conflict. So, it doesn't matter how Israel feels about what Obama said.

Considering Israel has already, repeatedly, said in major newspapers that it will strike if Iran doesn't back down, this isn't exactly a secret to anybody

^^ See, this is my point. Why state the obvious? What gets me about the statement is the acknowledgement that the Arab world doesn't want a nuclear Iran.

Yet, when Bush talks tough with Iran, the Arab world has a shit fit.

Why would even deign to think anybody in the US, short of the insane Bush crowd, is eager to invade another country and would do so?

With what troops?

With what money?

For what reason?

Iran? Invading Iran would be a fucking bloodbath that would make Iraq look like a walk in the park. The Revolutionary Guard aren't some 2 bit army fielding 25 year old rusting tanks.. they're thoroughly modern, well equipped and exceedingly well trained force with a few million men under arms.

If on the ridiculously offchance that it DOES happen, do you think it will be for a pack of lies, shifting rationale and corporate greed like the present meatgrinder?

Well, IF Obama were to do it, we know it wouldn't be based on a lie like Bush's war in Iraq was, and that there would be a justifiable cause.

And, at least, Obama talks about hunting down Bin Laden, you know, the person that attacked us on 9/11 and that Bush has pretty much forgotten about. Hell, the only time Bush mentions Bin Laden is when he releases another greatest hits video.

Just because I don't constantly run around and bash Obama at every turn like you do, does not mean I have him on a pedestal. I don't put anybody on a pedestal, especially not a politician.

Those statements show that B.O have zero knowledge about the relationship between Israel and that Arab countries and the USA part in it.

Never mind after someone more wiser and experienced from his party will explain that to him he will say something different. like he always do.
