Red face John McCain didn't love America till he was a POW

Yes, John McCain has repeatedly stated that he didn't love our country until he was captured as a POW during Vietnam. Here's what McCain said in March on FOX:

"I didn't really love America until I was deprived of her company."

    Then there's McCain in 1999:

"It wasn't until I was deprived of her company that I fell in love with America."

McCain was 31 years old when he was captured. 31. Far into adulthood. So McCain was fighting for our country, a country he didn't love. And we're supposed to respect the military service of a man who didn't love his country. Then why was he fighting?

How is this any different from what Michelle Obama said? Mrs. Obama said that for the first time in her adult life she really loves our country. McCain said that he never loved our country before the age of 31. At least Mrs. Obama did love our country before. McCain not so much. And another thing. Michelle Obama is the candidate's WIFE. John McCain wants to be commander in chief of a country he didn't love.

So, he is excused for not loving his country up until he was captured..because he was captured.

    oh people aren't liking this..

Nothing in America had earned the adult John McCain's love in the 31 years before he was shot down? Nothing? Not winning the Second World War? Not our regular and orderly transitions of power based on the rule of law? Not freeing millions of Jews from the Nazi's? Not the fact that we feed and defend the world? Not that we lead in science and technology research? Not even when McCain graduated from the United States Naval Academy? Not even McCain's grandfather and father who were admirals in the United States Navy taught him to love America? Nothing?

Not even the fact that McCain was able to use his fathers position as an Admiral in the Navy to guarantee he became a naval aviator even though he had graduated 4th from the bottom at the USNA?

Not the fact that we saved the entire world from the Japanese Empire had made John McCain at the age of 31 love his country in his entire adult life?

How sad. I certainly don't want this self-serving blind pessimist as commander in chief of the USA.

I'm 32, and in 32 years nothing has made me love it either.

I am 32 also, and there are things that I love about this country. Of course there are things that I am displeased about, but I do love it. I can go where ever I want to go, do what I want to do, and most importantly I can speak my mind however I see fit!! I can go on all day about the things I dislike, and the ones I love about this country, but it wouldn't take away from the man running for President didn't love his own country until he became a POW. My dad served in the Vietnam war, and he instilled his love and pride in country in me. I only loathed John McCain for his policies, but now it's personal!

a man states that there are things we take for granted and don't realize how we love them until we're deprived of them

which is true in a lot of people's lives....about a lot of things

yes, I'm sure he hated America before his POW time....

Horse poopie...I don't have to be deprived of anything to know what privileges are afforded to me, and how grateful I am to have them.

oh please...this is just the left's way of striking back at 'for the first time in my adult life i'm really proud of my country' comments...which was bullshit as well...

it will give the bloggers and assholes on the news something to argue about for weeks,....who hates america more? McCain or Michelle Obama? It's so fucking stupid

The left and the right have both become such smear artists and liars, that a third party would be the best thing that ever happened to this country. The bullshit the current parties keep feeding us is disgusting, and the dems have grown as bad as the gop....

Well yes, and that's why they made the article.. to point out that on either side it seems pretty damn silly, but if you're going to start going after for one person saying it then be prepared for it to be returned to you.

See, the thing is it's usually the Republicans who ALWAYS DO THIS STUFF. Every time. They always start shit before thinking and when they get bitchslapped back for it, they cry.

In the end, it IS ridiculous.. and that's what this points out.

I love my country... I don't like where it' at, or who's running it, but I still love it, and wouldn't live anywhere else. Except maybe Canada.

I think McCain was in the military because it was a family thing. "Well, my dad and grandad did it, I'll do it, too, and look macho."

I also kind of resent the comment you quoted. The US didn't save the entire world from the Japanese Empire or the Nazis. The Allies did. That includes the UK, Australia, Canada, NZ and particularly Russia. British and Commonwealth forces had already fought and won two major battles against the Nazis before the US showed up. The US does not "feed and defend" the world, nor lead in scientific and technological advancement.

There's plenty about the US to be proud about, but being proud doesn't require delusions of grandeur and an arrogant sense of superiority.
