Default Arnold Schwarzenegger makes climate change plea-then goes for drive in gas guzzler

His passionate speech on climate change was set to be one of the highlights of the Tory conference.
But, instead of being a spectacular coup for Conservative leader David Cameron, Arnold Schwarzenegger's address seems to have turned into something of an own goal.
In a glaring case of do-as-I-say and not-as-I-do, the Governator followed up his passionate plea for environmental action by cruising round Santa Monica in a carbon-belching gas guzzler.

    Hypocritical?: Arnie in his Bentley

Arnie, 60, used his silver Bentley Convertible for a solo drive to church yesterday - followed by a pack of his usual security entourage.
The car, which appeared to be a a £130,000 Contintental GTC , is marketed as a "convertible motoring at is exhilerating best" inspired by the "Grand Touring tradition of Bentley legend."
However, the luxurious behemoth comes at an environmental cost as it does an average of 16.5 mpg and has a carbon emissions rating of 410g/km.
A "greener" luxury car comes in at around 241g/km and some offer an average of around 25 mpg.

Close-up: The Californian governor was followed by his security team

Arnie, famed for sparking a craze for the pollution-belching Hummer, was originally meant to be in Blackpool for the Tory conference.
But the Californian governor, whose green make-over was met by incredulity in some quarters, pulled out of a personal appearance at the Winter Gardens due to political commitments.
Speaking to delegates by satellite link, he praised Daivd Cameron as a "dynamic" leader who had revived the "green" heritage of the Conservative Party, and provided a "strong and forceful voice" on climate change.

Message: Sharing the stage with David Cameron

He said: "By being a strong and forceful voice on climate change, David Cameron has revived the Conservative Party's green heritage and helped strengthen Britain's resolve on this issue and you have been a great example to the rest of the world.
"That is the kind of leadership that people want. That is the kind of leadership that people are hungry for. "They want action and results, not ideology and stalemate."
And, in a variation on his "I'll be back" catchphrase, Arnie added: "I hope to be there in person next year."

Climate change: His speech was well-received

    His speech received rapturous applause.
But the environmental lobby would probably have been less impressed if they had seen the movie star-turned-politician cruising around California in his Bentley.

erm, to be fair he's had a number of his vehicles retrofitted to either use ethanol or hybrid technology, including his hummer.
