Question Proposed Chicago Tower now 150-160 floors, 2000 foot high condos?

http://www.chicagotribune.com/busine...i-business-hed

Here is a link to the story. I had posted earlier about this tower in the US issues thread. The design is now still for 2000 feet, but all the way to the top with condos and no spire. Previously it was 1600 feet to roof, and a 400 foot spire. In the design they got rid of the hotel in the lower 20 floors and added 1000 units of condos with the additional width and height to the roof.

What do you think? I liked the previous design but am not liking this new one too much.

This is actually a serious design and proposal. They appear to have financing in place and plan to break ground for this within the next 6 months.

There will also be a pedestrian bridge spanning the mouth of the Chicago river from the plaza of this tower to the other side-also designed by the same architect(Santiago Calatrava). He also designed Turning Torso tower in Sweden.

First design:

I personally like the new one better, it looks like a column of water rising out of the lake.

I've stayed in the Shanghai jin mao tower (?) on like floor 81...it was AMAZING, the inside is like this giant beehive, it's really beautiful. i can't imagine being on floor 200.

I'd love to go back...but it's probably going to be like 20 years down the line lol

Dislike 'em both, but I was never one for living in a large phallus.

It may visit, it may not set up residence.

yeah I know. Also looks like a licorice twist..and that medical thing where the snakes are entertwined and rise up to face eachother. all they need to do is add the snakeheads.

There is also a proposal for Vegas: The Milam tower(1,888 feet)
*Now this one really does look like some kind of giant 'device'lol*

And then there is the Burj Dubai in Dubai already going up(the pic shows how far it is along..it is already over 1000 feet and you can see how far it has to go)
