Default Rumsfeld to resign

The story is just breaking all over the web. I'll post an article when I find something that's actually written.

(CBS/AP) Republican officials say Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, architect of an unpopular war in Iraq, is stepping down.

Word comes a day after the Democratic gains in the election, in which Rumsfeld was a focus of much of the criticism of the Iraq war.

Officials said Robert Gates, former head of the CIA, would replace Rumsfeld.

Democrats have long called for Rumsfeld's resignation, reports CBS News correspondent Bob Fuss, but President Bush just before the election said he supports Rumsfeld and the way the war in Iraq was conducted and wanted him to stay.http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/...n2162973.shtml
Just found this. LIstening to el shrubbo go on and on in the most repulsive defensive tone of voice. It's almost amusing but also scary. You can tell he's like a trapped rat and is looking for someone to bite. Oh bloody hell, here he goes with the whole 'protect the nation' crap. I wonder how long before 911 is brought up.

This is not at all shocking to me. Last night while watching election coverage, they were speculating on this.

Oh happy happy joy joy!!

I just wonder why they didn't sacrifice him earlier?

Rummy leaving would have signaled an actual change in the administration - something that the GOP could have ran on. IMHO the main reason the GOP lost was the war in Iraq. Firing (or letting Rummy resign) last week could have helped drag the GOP over the hump since so many of the races were so very tight.

They really didn't need to lose so many seats in Congress to tell them the American people were unhappy did they??
