Default Politics as usual: House passes bill making access to guns easier.

As the US House of Representatives raced to leave town for the November elections, the Republican leadership pushed a piece of legislation that gun control advocates say would make it much harder for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to punish gun dealers who violate federal firearms laws.

The bill, among many other things, would require the Attorney General to notify federal firearm license applicants in writing if the government intended to deny a license application and those who received that letter of denial would have the right to a hearing to appeal the Attorney General's decision.

The legislation had so much support it was considered under something called 'suspension of the rules' which limits debate to just 40 minutes, doesn't permit amendments and requires a two-thirds majority vote to pass. It got that with most House Republicans supporting it in addition to 63 Democrats.

While dangerous men armed with shotguns, rifles and semiautomatic pistols are taking young school girls hostage and shooting them to death, the House bill will make it easier to sell and buy guns.

The Senate has not taken up the house passed measure - at least not yet . Last week the Senate was busy passing a bill to build fences along the border to keep illegals out of the country.

Maybe the house and senate should consider building fences around our schools!
