Default Ed Buck, Democratic donor faces questions over 2nd dead man in his home

Ed Buck, Political Activist, Faces Questions Over 2nd Dead Man in His Home in 2 Years

A man was found dead Monday in the West Hollywood apartment of Ed Buck, an activist and Democratic donor. It was the second time someone was found dead there since July 2017.

For the second time in two years, Los Angeles detectives have found a man dead inside the apartment of Ed Buck, a political activist who rose to national prominence in the late 1980s for his effort to recall the governor of Arizona, the authorities said.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said it received a 911 call shortly after 1 a.m. on Monday from a person who claimed that a man inside a West Hollywood apartment had stopped breathing and could not be resuscitated. When emergency responders arrived at the residence, a second-floor unit on Laurel Avenue, they declared the man dead.

The authorities have not determined how the man died, nor have they publicly released his identity other than to say he was an adult black man. A group of protesters rallied outside Mr. Buck’s apartment throughout the day Monday and demanded justice for the man and for another black man, Gemmel Moore, who was found naked and dead of a drug overdose on a mattress in Mr. Buck’s living room in July 2017.

The sheriff’s office said that homicide detectives were among those who responded to Mr. Buck’s residence on Monday, and that it would review its investigation into the death of Mr. Moore, 26, and conduct new interviews. Mr. Buck, now 64, was not charged in Mr. Moore’s death.

“It is suspicious that this has happened twice now, so we’re going to conduct a thorough investigation to determine if it is criminal in nature,” Lt. Derrick Alfred told KTLA-TV, a local television station.

Outside Mr. Buck’s apartment on Monday, Jasmyne Cannick, a political activist in Southern California, said that the latest man to die at his apartment fit the profile of people who have contacted her with concerns about Mr. Buck. She accused Mr. Buck of picking up black men outside bars, contacting them on dating apps and paying for those outside the state to fly to Los Angeles to see him.

“He never stops,” Ms. Cannick said at the rally, pointing to Mr. Buck’s apartment. “Most recently, a young man, he flew in from Minnesota and sent me his plane ticket showing me that Ed Buck had flew him in and that he had partied and played with Ed Buck.”
Later, Ms. Cannick added: “There will probably be some other young man who heads upstairs who has no idea of what happened today.”

LaTisha Nixon, the mother of Mr. Moore, wrote on Facebook on Tuesday that Mr. Buck “must be convicted” in the deaths of her son and the latest man.

“He will not stop,” Ms. Nixon wrote. “He will continue to hurt and kill black men. There are 2 people now that have lost their lives..#justice4gemmel”A lawyer representing Mr. Buck, Seymour I. Amster, told reporters that he was innocent and not responsible for either man’s death. Mr. Buck was cooperating with the authorities, he said. “This is not a situation where Mr. Buck has caused the death,” Mr. Amster said. “This is a situation where Mr. Buck has had longtime friends who, unfortunately, do not handle their life well.

After Mr. Moore’s death, detectives interviewed Mr. Buck and considered him a suspect in the case, according to court documents obtained by The Los Angeles Times. But no charges were filed because the police could not prove “beyond a reasonable doubt that suspect Buck furnished drugs to Gemmel Moore or that suspect Buck possessed drugs,” the documents said. The medical examiner ruled that Mr. Moore had died from an accidental methamphetamine overdose. The coroner’s report also noted that a journal, which was reviewed by The Los Angeles Times, was found in Mr. Moore’s possessions.

“I’ve become addicted to drugs and the worst one at that,” the journal said, according to the newspaper. “Ed Buck is the one to thank, he gave me my first injection.”
In another section, the journal said, “If it didn’t hurt so bad I’d kill myself but I’ll let Ed Buck do it for now.”

Daily Fail just posted a graphic NSFW article about this case, where they interviewed a victim of this creep who thankfully made it out alive. His story gave me the chills and was creepy AF and reminded me of a Jeffrey Dahmer situation. This guy needs to be locked up.

I don't see how he got away with the first .... let's call it what it is .... murder, let alone the second. I read about the 28yo guy (also black, clearly Buck has a type) who was injected with meth and narrowly escaped earlier this morning, and holy shit .... do we have a serial killer here?

Thanks kasippu. I didn’t want to get in trouble with the mods for the NSFW stuff. His eye witness account was terrifying and reminded me so much of a Dahmer situation. The fact he had some sort of body guard that monitored his apartment when he had his Johns over makes me think there are many other victims out there.......

He keeps getting away with it because he's wealthy. And white. And the men are gay black men, who are also hustlers. Donor to the Democratic Party? No one will put him in jail. Hilary will have to throw this one under the bus.

Same here. I get serial killer vibes by reading this story.
    Wonder who called the police?

I did a little reading because I'd never heard of this guy. I don't know if I get a serial killer vibe (both deaths were reported, no attempts to conceal the bodies or the drugs in the apt) but I'd say definitely (at best) a sexual sadist and drug user. I read part of the daily mail story (that site sucks for me, I can never get it to load) and not sure how credible that guy is...he went back to Buck's apartment several times, even after he learned of the first guy's death, let Buck pay him cash and for flights. Never reported anything to the police but conveniently has photos.

I don't know why Buck wasn't at least charged with drug possession in the first case, sounds like they found quite a cache. Or maintaining a house of common nuisance. Even if they couldn't prove he overdosed the guy. (Cases like that are hard to prove, especially if the guy was a known drug abuser) Whether that's due to his democratic donor status, who knows. Articles I read said his donations were $30k over ten years, then $110k, and of course Fox News reported $500k over several years and called him a megadonor.

It will be interesting to see what the second guy died from. He was supposedly a long-time friend, 55 y.o., so he doesn't really fit the profile of the other two, other than race.

I tend to believe this guy who got away. Probably mostly because this monster who used him KNEW that guys like him are mostly discarded by society so I want to give him the benefit of the doubt. Gay, black, semi-homeless, probably HIV positive, this SOB thought he could just abuse and discard these men for his pleasure. There is a lot of shame and loneliness from their community and I know this first hand from my step brother who can tick all the boxes (except for the meth) and the struggles for him have been life long especially with HIV. There was a specific account from the victim who escaped that really disturbed me how he kept wanting to inject more meth - like he wanted to test the boundaries to see if he could maybe kill them. He paced the room ignoring their struggles while they were zoning in and out of consciousness. This was an exact scenario from the Dahmer case.

I heard an interview yesterday from the roommate of the recent dead victim - the 55 year old black male who was a retired porn star. His roommate was adamant he did not use drugs, never saw him use. I get that he could have hid it, but perhaps he wanted nothing to do with the drugs, and this Buck creep got agitated and drugged him then injected him. I really think he’s a natural born killer. Sorry for the long rant.

The fact that this guy kept going back doesn't surprise me. He's an addict, and Buck is, at best, a drug pusher and sadist.

Here's what I can't get out of my head - if the races were reversed - if Buck was a well off black man who had tons of drug paraphernalia and sex toys and a young white male was found dead in his apartment - do we really believe he'd be comfy at home in his long johns, ready and able to repeat the scenario?

No, of course we don't. If he lived through the investigation and arrest, his black ass would be locked up.

Endemic and systemic racism isn't just a talking point to the people who breathe it in every damn day.
