Bush Chooses Director of Faith Office
Bush Chooses Director of Faith Office
By JIM RUTENBERG
Published: August 4, 2006
President Bush has selected Jay F. Hein to be his new director of his office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives, the White House said. Mr. Hein is the president of the Sagamore Institute for Policy Research, a conservative-leaning group based in Indianapolis. He succeeds James Towey, who left the post in the spring to become the president of St. Vincent College in Latrobe, Pa. Mr. Bush created the office in 2001 to integrate more religious and community groups into the federally financed network of social service providers. The Sagamore Institute says on its Web site that it serves a similar purpose.
Bush have some kind of official office of Faith-based and community Initiatives? How does that not violate sep. of church and state??? And of course it would have to be a conservative religious group!

That is John Adams, Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin in their graves.

Re: Bush Chooses Director of Faith Office
This has been around since 2001? I had no idea. With practically zero knowledge about this, I am automatically assuming that he did it to suck up to a particular demographic, and that it has very little real value. I suppose it would be best if it DID have very little value. Bush is a glaring example of how people who want to draw attention to their faith are often the worst examples of it. This has no place in government.

Re: Bush Chooses Director of Faith Office
Some of the programs actually help the people nobody wants to help-the poor, drug addicts, homeless. Like church-based shelters and lunch programs.

Re: Bush Chooses Director of Faith Office
Well, those are all good, but do we need the government, with their inflated salaries, involved? How about just allocating funds to existing programs that apply for them?

Very often they do. Churches that already provide social services can apply for the money. But, you know how the government is, if they start handing out money they need a WHOLE bureacracy to support it.

Hmmm, if that was too facile for you, how about the CONSTITUTION and the Declaration of Independence?

What is your problem? why the attitude? And what about the constitution and the Declaration of Independence?....????? could you elaborate? I know that God is mentioned in many old official documents..but religion itself is not. "God' could be anything anyone interprets it to be. Jesus Christ, Christianity, Buddha, Rama, Mohammed, etc. are NOT mentioned however.
I guess I don't understand your post.
