I've been giving this a great deal of thought since the recent shameful actions of a few sick individuals in the US military have come to light. Today's Washington Post was filled with horrifying stories, two of which caught my eye and raises the question above.

US Soldiers shoot first and ask questions later - http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...070701155.html

Inadequent medical care given to internees at Abu Guraib - http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...070701158.html

What exactly is to be the logical role of our military in Iraq? Are they to act with honor and not violate the Geneva Convention or is whatever is necessary aokay as long as we defeat the enemy?
