    Angry Bush in Columbus Today..

    Bush Attends Central Ohio Fundraiser
Political Names From Both Parties Heading Back To State

    UPDATED: 8:04 pm EDT June 30, 2006

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The state's political hit parade continued Friday, as President George W. Bush arrived in the Columbus area for a fundraiser for U.S. Sen. Mike DeWine.

Air Force One landed in Columbus at about 4:45 p.m., and Bush headed to the private fundraiser in Powell at 5:30 p.m., NBC 4 reported.

The President was greeted by homemade signs and waving American flags as he made his way through suburban Columbus.*ugh!!! *

Ohioans are regularly treated to drop-in visits by the nation's political heavyweights, especially in the months leading up to competitive elections such as DeWine's re-election battle against U.S. Rep. Sherrod Brown.

Also up for grabs this year are the governor's mansion and a pair of U.S. House seats, races that have both Republicans and Democrats dispatching some of their biggest names to Ohio between now and Nov. 7.

Many will be on repeat trips.

Friday's private fundraiser for DeWine, for example, is Bush's fifth visit to the state this year. Vice President Dick Cheney was in Columbus before the May 2 primary to raise money for Republican state Rep. Chuck Blasdel, running against Democrat state Sen. Charlie Wilson for the House seat U.S. Rep. Ted Strickland vacated to run for governor.

After leaving the fundraiser, Bush stopped at a roadside lemonade stand that children had set up.

Democrats, meanwhile, have recently hosted a stream of party stars including U.S. Sens. John Kerry, Joe Biden, John Edwards and Barack Obama, retired Army Gen. Wesley Clark, Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack and Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean.

The state's importance nationally also has given Ohio's guest list a hint of the 2008 presidential contest.

Democratic hopeful Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, who has already raised money for Brown, is expected to return before fall. Former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, a Republican, and Mark Warner, the Democratic former governor of Virginia, with presidential aspirations, also are likely to be back.

Democrats criticize DeWine for using Bush to raise money among loyal Republicans, while avoiding public appearances with a president whose popularity rating is at a record-low 36 percent. The party has focused on Ohio because Democrats believe the state's investment scandal -- which has seen 14 Republicans indicted or convicted in the past year, including Gov. Bob Taft, who pleaded no contest to ethics charges -- so closely resembles problems the GOP is having at the national level, DNC spokesman Damien LaVera said.*hahahahaha.. *

"Ohio's a crucial state," he said. "When you're looking at what's going on at the national level, Ohio is a microcosm of that."

A presidential visit, whatever its length or purpose, serves to energize members of the party and remind them that Ohio matters to Republicans, said John McClelland, a spokesman for the Ohio Republican Party.

"The president is in the unique position to attract a lot of attention to a candidate, especially someone like Mike DeWine, who he wants to support and wants to encourage," he said.

Yeah he better stay to the (white and Republican) suburbs...bastard. I hope his shitness actually helps to tarnish the Republicans he is out to 'help'

You should drive out to where he's gonna be the next time he comes nearby you and protest! If I can flip a bird every time I pass the White House someone else should be able to heckle and protest.
