Marion Barry Half-Sorry for Telling ‘Dirty’ Asians to Get Out of His Town

Current D.C. councilman and former crack-smoking "Mayor for Life" Marion Barry is "very sorry for offending the Asian American community" by making this astonishingly offensive comment at a press conference:

We've got to do something about these Asians coming in, opening up businesses, those dirty shops. They ought to go. I'll just say that right now, you know. But we need African American businesspeople to be able to take their places, too.

Following outcry about his rancid and shameless bigotry, the Civil Rights Movement veteran apologized late last night on Twitter—and then defended "the facts" of his comments:

I admit, I could and should have said it differently. But the facts are still very present in our daily lives here. We are tired of sub-standard treatment, tired of being kept [at] arms length distance, tired of the lack of community engagement.

Do you really think that apology was heartfelt, Marion?

It is as solid as Marion Barry can make it.

And that is the story of how someone can have a few successes early in his career, and then spend the rest of it being an absolute piece of shit, and persist nonetheless.

I hate him - always have. He married his first wife because she was light-skinned (half-Italian, half-African American). Then when he decided to run for mayor, he allegedly forced her to go to a tanning salon so that the black community would approve!! Phony, conniving crack-addicted fuckwad.

Is he serious? There's no way to pretty up what he said. If someone switched it and replaced African-American every where Asian appears and vice versa in that statement, I wonder what he'd think about it? He'd be appalled.

He's always been an old fool. And the ward that he's councilman over is a crime-ridden shithole. If it wasn't for those Asians he despises, there would barely be any places of business there. But you can't tell folks up there in DC nothing about him. I have relatives in the Maryland suburbs of DC and some of them think the sun shines out that man's ass. DC is a much nicer city now than when he was mayor there.
