Anti-Gay Governor’s Gay Hairstylist Quits Over Her Dickery

New Mexico governor Susana Martinez's life just got significantly less fabulous: her hairstylist, a gay salon owner, has refused to style her hair until she stops opposing gay marriage. Depriving a Republican of the services that keep her looking like a modern June Cleaver is an act of defiance louder than a thousand glitterbombs.
Antonio Darden runs the popular Antonio's Hair Salon in Santa Fe, and has said that he won't see his famous occasional client anymore. He told Santa Fe's Eyewitness 4 News,
The governor's aides called not too long ago, wanting another appointment to come in. Because of her stances and her views on this I told her aides no. They called the next day, asking if I'd changed my mind about taking the governor in and I said no again.
Darden, who sort of reminds me a little bit of a gay Jeff Goldblum (highest compliment), and his partner have been in a relationship for 15 years. He says that while the Governor has said marriage should be between a man and a woman, he strongly disagrees. "I think it's just equality, dignity for everyone," he says.
It's about time the gay mafia hit conservative lawmakers where it hurts: in the hair.

Good for him, just imagine the message it would send if every single gay went on strike! No repug would have good hair or be able to put together an outfit, or fabulously decorate their homes.

That's actually a good idea. All gay hairstylists, makup artists, fashion designers, ect should do this to all anti gay marriage polititions.

Totally agree! These antigay fuckers need to be as unfabulous on the outside as they are on the inside. Strike!

It would've been better if he had "accidentally" cut part of her hair off or given her a bad dye job. Otherwise, kudos to him. *thumbs up*

No, why should he damage his professional reputation fucking up her hair? I love this. You always here about some anti gay marriage florist or some dumb shit saying they won't do gay weddings.

Good for him. She's been telling him he's good enough to do her hair, but not good enough for marriage for years and he's telling her to fuck off. Fair trade.

But on a superficial note, her hair is no great shakes.

I was just thinking about this yesterday morning while watching a very helpful and obviously gay young man at a fabric store helping an older, conservative looking lady find fabric. This isn't to say that particular woman was necessarily anti-gay, but I do wonder how lost many anti-gay conservatives would be without the gay people in their lives to help them.

    Good for him.

*but(not to be a Debbie downer here) not all of us fit the stereotype. I can't design rooms for shit, don't know a thing about hair, have no fashion sense whatsoever. Still gay last time I checked.

*although I do great with Landscape architecture, gardening, and I used to make artificial trees and flowers...that counts for something, right? Or I could just go the Grimm route and kick the bitch with steel toed boots?

Yeah, I don't think it's necessarily older people these days who are anti-gay. I think may it's a lot of younger fundie types and people raising their kids and worrying about the gheyness happening to them. Sometimes older people who start out conservative find their way to a live and let live attitude after going through the vicissitudes of life and figuring out what really matters.

BUT 'tolerating' those wonderful gay people you happen to know in life and going to bat and fighting for their rights are two different things. "Live and let live" isn't enough. I really wish more people would think about that.
