    Default Cheney Might Resign!!

White House Watch: Cheney resignation rumors fly

Sparked by today's Washington Post story that suggests Vice President Cheney's office is involved in the Plame-CIA spy link investigation, government officials and advisers passed around rumors that the vice president might step aside and that President Bush would elevate Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

"It's certainly an interesting but I still think highly doubtful scenario," said a Bush insider. "And if that should happen," added the official, "there will undoubtedly be those who believe the whole thing was orchestrated another brilliant Machiavellian move by the VP."

Said another Bush associate of the rumor, "Yes. This is not good." The rumor spread so fast that some Republicans by late morning were already drawing up reasons why Rice couldn't get the job or run for president in 2008.

"Isn't she pro-choice?" asked a key Senate Republican aide. Many White House insiders, however, said the Post story and reports that the investigation was coming to a close had officials instead more focused on who would be dragged into the affair and if top aides would be indicted and forced to resign.

"Folks on the inside and near inside are holding their breath and wondering what's next," said a Bush adviser. But, he added, they aren't focused on the future of the vice president. "Not that, at least not seriously," he said.
Holy shit! Is hell freezing over?

He probably wants to focus on earning more Halliburton zillions on all those contracts in Iraq.

He probably figures the courtroom won't have any outlets he can plug himself into.

Christ, this is all so similar to Tricky Dick's corrupt administration. Agnew resigned and then it all quickly fell apart. The parallels get more interesting by the day.

The thing is, Spiro Agnew resigned because of stuff he did while governor of Maryland (accepting bribes), not stuff he did as VP. Some people say that Agnew's corruption woes were a smokescreen to divert attention away from Watergate.

good point. Perhaps the Bushie's are actually leaking some of this stuff in hopes that it amounts to nothing, thereby taking the heat off of them for the real crimes and misdemeanors?

Nah, Bush is a totally different animal from Nixon. Nixon was a paranoid flopsweat...Bush is a bombastic arrogant boob. They're as different as night and day. I think Bush's administration is more corrupt than Nixon's, and I think if Bush gets away with what he's doing, then Clinton was crucified for politics and Nixon got a raw deal.

True and Nixon did manage to do a few positive things for the nation while acting like a paranoid flopsweat and burgularing the Dems office. Point out one positive and beneficial thing Bush has managed to spearhead in his years in office, landing a jet on a carrier and that useless 'No Child Left Behind' act don't count.

About the only decent thing Nixon did was open a dialogue with China...and he wouldn't have even done that without Kissinger.

Hmmm, ok, maybe I'm being a bit harsh, although I wouldn't really give him credit for the draft ending. I think that was brought to bear upon him.

Maybe, but it happened on his watch. Nixon did do some good; it's usually forgotten because of Watergate. Bush is worse in my opinion. He STARTED the Iraq war. Nixon only inherited Vietnam.

Fair enough. But he was a dirty trickster from way back. A great satire of Nixon is a book called 'Our Gang'. Really funny take on his administration as well as his own personal craziness.
