Thumbs down Military tells congress to keep the gay ban in place

Nevermind that the military is supposedly under the control of said congress.. i guess not anymore, now the military is dictating policy to the elected civilian government..

WASHINGTON — Defense Secretary Robert Gates is warning Congress not to tamper with the military's ban on openly gay service members until he can come up with his own plan for repeal.

In a strongly worded letter, obtained by The Associated Press, Gates told a House committee on Friday that forcing policy changes on the military before it's ready "would send a very damaging message to our men and women in uniform that in essence their views, concerns and perspectives do not matter."

Gay rights advocates want legislation this year that would freeze military firings of openly gay service members, and some lawmakers are planning to offer such a bill.

Gates says he supports lifting the ban but first wants to survey the troops on how it should be done.

Survey the troops on how it should be done? Are you fucking stupid?

you just fucking do it. Troops obey orders. You say "This is what's happening" and if they don't hop to it they get court martialled. The fuck is the problem?

    What a weak excuse.

Did they do a survey when they racially integrated the forces too? No.

I'm so sick of this shit. One excuse after another.

I thought they formally suspended the implementation of DADT, not yet repealed, but without any teeth on the military end. I'm thinking this is an excuse for Congress' inaction rather than the military interceding.

A relative/friend of mine that's in the Army who is stationed in Texas, said that she feels safer with DADT in place... even if her and her girlfriend always go out with a group of people so she won't be found out.
