Default Abortion Ban Will Be On 2011 Ballot in Mississippi

JACKSON, Miss. -- Mississippi is putting an abortion ban on the ballot in 2011.

Abortion opponents collected enough signatures to put the proposal on next year's ballot. Voters will be asked to support whether unborn fetuses should be given human rights in the state's constitution.

A similar proposal is going before Colorado voters this fall. If the proposals pass, opponents say they would conflict with a woman's constitutional right to an abortion.

Mississippi already has one of the nation's toughest abortion laws. It requires the consent of both parents for minors, a 24-hour waiting period and counseling before all abortions.

Yet if the underage girl wants to have the baby and give it up for adoption they will declare her an emancipated minor so she can sign the relinquishment papers and find ways to not name the bio father so they can get a healthy white infant in an adoptive home. There is no counseling required for that either.

Abortion ban? Meaning you can't have an abortion or meaning the government will no longer pay for it?

Either one is an assault on women's rights.

you mean you can't go to your own doctor and pay for your own abortion?

I'm not for Obama abortions (full term) and I'm not for my taxes paying for abortions but beyond that it's up to the persons conscience what they do.

There's no such thing as a full term abortion. Don't believe every pro life piece of propaganda you hear. That nonsense about Obama and his support of live birth abortions was an out and out lie.

    ^^^
so-called 'full term' abortions (abortions performed after the limit) are only performed when the mother's life is in danger or if the foetus is so malformed it will not survive. it's not a 'i'm 7 months pregnant and changed my mind, get this foetus out of me' abortion. no one can have one unless it meets some very strict guidelines. there is so much ignorance on the subject of abortions done past the limit and i think part of it is due to calling them 'partial birth abortions'. they should be in another category altogether and not get lumped in with the abortion debate. it's a procedure that is only ever performed for medical reasons.

eta: my post is in response go gapeach.

^ Yes, a late term abortion. The terms are confusing- deliberately so- Full Term abortion is a word concocted by the religious right to sound awful. It makes it sound like the baby was being delivered and themn was killed.

Even what we call late term varies. In my state abortion is legal to 24 weeks. Some people consider anything after 20 weeks to be late term. It's all a semantics game begun by the fanatics to block women's access to abortion.
