Default Sarah Palin to be keynote speaker at "Bowl Expo 2010"

I want to make all kinds of jokes about Sarah Palin’s “other” turkey-gate, or quitting after the sixth frame, or being the “7/10 split” of politicians…. but to be honest, I’m just sitting here a bit speechless.

Sarah Palin has “confirmed” (and we know how that goes) that she will be the keynote speaker at …wait for it … Bowl Expo 2010! Oh, you’re not familiar with Bowl Expo? Really? That would be the annual gathering sponsored by the Bowling Proprietors Association of America. Yes, bowling. As in balls and pins and funny shoes.

“Sarah Palin is a great friend to the bowling industry and we’re so proud and honored to welcome her as our keynote speaker at International Bowl Expo 2010,” said Steven Johnson, executive director of the BPAA. “Regardless of your political affiliation, Ms. Palin is a force in American politics and culture. Her presence underscores the impact and importance of bowling, one of our country’s leading national pastimes and a growing $10 billion industry.”

I admire the optimistic gumption of Mr. Johnson (whom we can only assume is a Republican) in starting his comment with “regardless of your political affiliation,” as though Democratic bowlers everywhere will be thinking, “You know, I’m a card-carrying Dem, but Sarah Palin? You just gotta love her.” I have a feeling that Mr. Johnson is going to have a lot of phone calls today.

For those of you who want to attend the event and tell me exactly HOW (other than “agreeing” to this engagement) is “a great friend to the bowling industry,” I’d be very interested to know.

The International Bowl Expo 2010 is to be held from June 27 to July 1 at the Las Vegas Hilton and Las Vegas Convention Center. Ms. Palin’s keynote speech is to take place during the general session on the morning of June 30 at the Las Vegas Hilton.

I'm glad she's a great friend to the bowling industry - that means she has one friend. We all need a friend.

Dear Bowlers - she'll cancel. Guaranteed. Don't go out and buy a shiny new outfit for this one.

They better lock in a penalty into the contract in case she cancels.

Huh. I never noticed it before either. Where's George Carlin when we need him? I'll pin my hopes on Chris Rock saying something pithy about this.
