The father of Sarah Palin's grandson "says he doesn't want to hurt Sarah Palin but he knows some things that could do just that," CBS News gushed Tuesday morning by way of plugging Wednesday's "exclusive" interview with Levi Johnston on "The Early Show."

"The Early Show's" Maggie Rodriguez asked Johnston about Palin's new book. Which, BTW, Palin herself will plug on the Nov. 16 episode of Oprah Winfrey's syndicated talk show -- which, in one of those extraordinary coincidences, is distributed by -- CBS!

"Sounds like you really resent her now," she asks Levi during the interview, which was taped in advance.

"Well now I've heard all the things she's said. You know, the Sarah Palin I knew before, it was -- it was her putting on a front, it was her being fake to me and now that everything's slowly coming out and I'm hearing more things, you know, and things she's said and done, you know, I see the real Palin," Levi responds, before stepping through the looking glass:

Maggie: Are you hurt by all this?

Levi: I was yeah, and now its just kind of like, alright, well now its my turn.

Maggie: What do you mean by that?

Levi: Well its like Vanity Fair. I'm gonna go out, I told a little bit of stuff and you know, I'm just not going to take it anymore.

Maggie: But you really sound like somebody who's dead set on hurting these people the way they hurt you.

Levi: No, I'm not really in it to hurt them though.

Maggie: That's what it sounds like...somebody whose bent on revenge and getting even, 'now it's my turn'.

Levi: Well that's part of it, I guess, but at the same time, you know, if she's going to go out there and say things to me, about me, I'm going to leak some things on her. I mean that's just how it is.

Yes, a super-rare instance of a source "outing" himself on national television. Nicely played, Johnston!

In other Palin news:

Sarah Palin reported in financial disclosures out this morning that she received $1.25 million from publisher HarperCollins as "retainer for book" before she resigned as governor in July.

The report doesn't give a date for when Palin received the money. But the disclosures cover money that Palin received during her final seven months as governor, from Jan. 1 to July 26.

No other details are offered on the book deal, but a retainer would just be an upfront piece of her money. Palin's memoir, "Going Rogue: An American Life," is to hit bookstores on Nov. 17.

UPDATE -- Palin's spokeswoman, Meg Stapleton, just emailed me this statement:

"The Governor has complied with Alaska disclosure law by her filing yesterday. Now, as a private citizen, her business dealings, including her publishing agreement, are confidential."

Palin also reports in the disclosures that she took out a home loan from Wells Fargo for "legal fees to fight false allegations while governor."

She didn't give a date or amount.

Palin's associates have said she incurred over $600,000 in legal fees as a result of "Troopergate" as well as various ethics complaints, and her legal defense fund is in limbo after an investigator found "probable cause" it's in violation of the law.

Palin's report also lists her as owner of "Pie Spy LLC," described as a marketing business. It's referred to as "Services for the Elderly and Persons with Disabilities" in the state's corporation database. The address of the business is listed as the office of Palin's lawyer in Anchorage, Thomas Van Flein.

Palin listed several gifts as well, including $4,250 in Yankees tickets in June from Rudy Giuliani for herself, her husband and her daughter, Willow.

Palin reported receiving $1,664 from evangelist Franklin Graham's Samaritan's Purse for airfare to Russian Mission and Marshall as part of an effort to deliver food aide to the Western Alaska vilages last spring.

Her husband, Todd, reported a $2,000 gift from the teen abstinence advocacy group Candie's Foundation for a May trip to New York. Their daughter, Bristol, was a spokesperson for the group.)

These are the final financial disclosure reports that Palin will be required to file with the Alaska Public Offices Commission.

Palin reported that she received $73,000 in salary and $6,370 in per diem during those final months before resigning as governor.

Todd Palin reported receiving $34,086 during that time as a BP production operator. He also reported $32,260 from his commercial setnet fishing operation in Bristol Bay, under the business name "Toad's Fisheries."

Todd Palin also reported $3,500 in winnings from the Iron Dog snowmachine race.

He disclosed a $3,252 snowmachine discount from his sponsor, Arctic Cat.

I truly loathe Palin, but I still think it's shitty and short-sighted to publicly trash the grandmother of your kid, no matter who she is.

I enjoy the hillbilly shoot-out aspect of it. They're like the Hatfields and McCoys. Neither one is right to do it, but it's fun to watch and read about. I know I should feel sorry for Trig or Trip or whatever the hell it's called, but, face it, the kid probably was probably blessed at birth with stoopid genes from both sides.

Levi Johnston appeared on CBS' Early Show Wednesday, where he explained his reasons for spilling unflattering information about the Palin family and said he was keeping some "huge" secrets.

Among other things, Johnston said Palin joked about her son Trig's Down Syndrome, calling him her "retarded baby."

"I was just in shock the first time I heard it," he said, when host Maggie Rodriguez expressed disbelief. He also said Bristol took care of the baby much more than her mother: "Sarah was never home."

Johnston also said that Todd and Sarah would fight in front of their kids.

He said he was going public because the Palins betrayed him and backstabbed him: "I really don't care anymore ... Now it's my turn ... I told a little bit of stuff, and you know, I'm just not going to take it anymore."

"If she's going to go out there and say things to me, about me, I'm going to leak some things on her. I mean that's just how it is," he said. He added, however, that there are some things he won't say that would really hurt Palin. "I'm not gonna go that far," he said.

In recent weeks Johnston has seized the media spotlight, after the announcement that the 19-year-old plans to pose nude in an upcoming issue of Playgirl magazine.

ABC News’ Rick Klein reports: Former Gov. Sarah Palin is blasting away at the father of her grandson, issuing a blistering statement today that impugns Levi Johnston’s motives in continuing to speak out against the Palin family, and attacks his decision to pose for “Playgirl.”

In a statement issued this afternoon, Palin, R-Alaska, said: “We have purposefully ignored the mean spirited, malicious and untrue attacks on our family. We, like many, are appalled at the inflammatory statements being made or implied.”

“Trig is our 'blessed little angel' who knows it and is lovingly called that every day of his life. Even the thought that anyone would refer to Trig by any disparaging name is sickening and sad.”

Palin also attacks CBS, which aired the first part of an interview with Johnston on “The Early Show” this morning.

“ Consider the source of the most recent attention-getting lies -- those who would sell their body for money reflect a desperate need for attention and are likely to say and do anything for even more attention,” Palin says in the statement.

The attack comes after Johnston hinted this morning that he has damaging revelations he can make about Palin.

"There are some things that I have that are huge. And I haven't said them because I'm not gonna hurt her that way,” he said.

"I have things that can, you know -- that would get her in trouble, and could hurt her. Will hurt her. But I'm not gonna go that far. You know, I mean, if I really wanted to hurt her, I could, very easily. But there's -- I'm not gonna do it. I'm not going that far."

Also in the interview, Johnston expanded on an allegation he made in an interview with Vanity Fair, that Palin regularly refers to her youngest child, Trig, as “retarded” -- a charge Sarah Palin denies. Trig Palin has Down syndrome.

"I was just in shock for the first time I heard it," Johnston told CBS. "And then she'd say it regularly. And I think she was joking, but it doesn't make it right."

Palin’s memoir, “Going Rogue,” publishes next month.

For what its worth, I just caught Kathy Griffin on The Insider and she was discussing Levi and what he has to reveal. She said that she knew a month ago what Levi's bombshell was, but she's not telling. She was actually serious (as far as I can tell). She swore she was serious.

After a bunch of questions and evasive replies, Kathy said, 'Its the type of bombshell that can take a political candidate down, absolutely.'

She went on to say something like 'if I were Sarah, I'd be pretty worried right now.'

The plot thickens!

Aren't leaks usually done by anonymous sources?
