Question Obama to ensure no federal money pays for abortions, giant loser pussyface wuss

Abortion is controversial. And Obama won't touch controversial public policy. He prefers to make such issues go away by giving Republicans and conservatives what they want.

The problem is that these issues won't go away. Women (and men) care about choice. Tens of millions of gay Americans and their families and friends care about civil rights. Tens of millions of Latinos care about immigration. These hot-button issues aren't going to go away simply because the president caves to the opposition. The one inherent problem with this strategy is that it's only a short-term fix that tends to enrage the core Democratic constituencies who find that they've been fixed. And just as bad, it emboldens Republicans and conservatives to come back times harder and ask for ten times more:

HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius told me on ‘This Week’ the President will go beyond language in a House bill to make sure no public money goes to pay for abortions under health care reform.

Abortion foes argue language in the House bill has too many holes and that taxpayers could potentially subsidize abortions. Sebelius told me there will be no uncertainty with the President's plan.

“In fact recently the Catholic bishops came out, after the President’s statement saying that his statement about what he intends in the plan that no public fund would go to fund abortion and the fact that he has come out firmly for insuring all Americans and saying that it’s a moral issue as well as an economic issue and they endorsed moving forward. I think the legislative language will reflect what the President has just said.”

GEORGE: “So you are saying that he will go beyond what we have seen in the House and explicitly rule out any public funding for abortion?”

SEBELIUS: “Well that’s exactly what the President said and that’s what he intends that the bill he signs will do.”

isn't he overstepping his bounds? i thought the bills had to be made in congress?

Is he using his bully pulpit for that, or is he attaching a signing statement?

    amazing how selective he's being

and where does this stand go in regard to tubal ligation or a vasectomy....or even birth control.....there are religious objections to those. you can't give an inch or you end up on that slippery slope.

No kidding. Which one was that? The Baucus Caucus one?

When I start reading about these dipshit political decisions Obama is making, my first though now is, "How much is Rahm Emmanuel involved in this?"

He already has a lot of problems getting some people to accept his health care stance. Maybe he thinks this will make it easier for some to accept it. Give and take.
Is it not possible that abortion can be included a couple of years down the road, provided he gets his way with the medical plan?
He's faced so much criticism that he might be looking for ways to make it easy to gain followers his health care idea.

*Please don't anybody make me feel like an idiot for what I just posted, I don't keep up to the minute on politics like a lot here seem to do. The thought above was just what I thought when I first read the article.

You're probably right Hummus, but he's proactively taking things off the table rather than as part of negotiation. He weakens the dem traditional positions by constantly NOT putting things up for debate, so he gives up far more than he would need to if negotiated from strength instead hoping that his opposition thinks he's a nice guy for doing their negitiating for them.

You can sure as shit bet that whatever crap health care "reform" we end up with will fully cover all matters of limp noodle correction.

Medical assistance, and planned parent hood have been paying for abortions for years... All was needed was a Medical assistant card... and you got an abortion.

I know right? I was surprised when he said that, however these people will not support him regardless.

I don't agree with completely denying coverage for abortion, especially if the mother's life is in danger. I can also understand why pro-lifers don't want their money funding abortion and why pro-choicers may not want to see their money being squandered on people who are irresponsible or just don't care because the government will foot the bill. Not every person is like that, but there will always be system abusers.

Personally, I could accept a compromise. For instance, deny government funding for elective abortions, yet cover all forms of contraception and pick up the tab for dispensation. If a woman were to become pregnant while utilizing birth control, and be able to prove so, the abortion would be covered due to contraception failure.
