Default Jimmy Carter on women and religion

I LOVE his speech, especially this part:

The truth is that male religious leaders have had - and still have - an option to interpret holy teachings either to exalt or subjugate women. They have, for their own selfish ends, overwhelmingly chosen the latter. Their continuing choice provides the foundation or justification for much of the pervasive persecution and abuse of women throughout the world. This is in clear violation not just of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights but also the teachings of Jesus Christ, the Apostle Paul, Moses and the prophets, Muhammad, and founders of other great religions - all of whom have called for proper and equitable treatment of all the children of God. It is time we had the courage to challenge these views.

I've been curious, why do some people hate him? Whenever we talk about presidents in my dad's house, my dad always saids that Carter was the worse ever.

Carter at times was ineffectual as President, but I think his problems were more bad luck than anything else. I think part of the reason that many, especially those on the right, don't like Carter is that he said difficult-to-face truths. He was talking about the energy crisis and the need to conserve back in the 70s.

After W, Carter looks amazingly good.

I was just about to type the same thing. His vilification was just payback for Watergate. He is a good man and a decent prez. Hell, Reagan took credit for getting the hostages back but it had a lot to do with work done by the Carter team in the run up to the inaugeration. I really like the old peanut farmer. Like I said, he's a good man.

I agree with his comments about religion and women.
