Question Why do Republicans see free universal health care as a bad thing?

Doctors signal they'll work with Obama (AP) - Yahoo! News - Yahoo! Buzz

AP - The nation's largest group of doctors began their annual meeting as a potential obstacle to President Obama's health care overhaul. After a big pep talk from Obama himself, they ended it Wednesday by signaling they won't close the door on one of his key proposals, a public health insurance plan to compete with private insurers.

There are 850,000 doctors in the U.S., of which 250,000 belong to the AMA. While many of these docs are liberal, a good portion of them are still very cautious on what's being proposed, so it's not a slam dunk yet. But if you really want to keep it in perspective, just imagine all 850,000 doctors slowly becoming government employees over the next 10 years as a result of Obamacare. If that doesn't scare you to death, just stick around...the government provided health care service definitely will.

    ***

United Socialist States of America. All Hail Adolf Obama!

    ***

So they'll work with the Liar in Chief...
The man who spouted "Campaign rhetoric" (his words for dishonesty) to lie his way into office then turns around and changes his mind on almost everything on security, or tries to push through socialist policies domestically.

If socialized medicine is so good, how come it costs 16% of a German's income to fund it? Or why does Canada have cheap drugs but otherwise the worst health care system in the Western world? Or why do almost 20% of Britons pay for private health care on top of the 8% of their salary that they have to 'donate'?

It's sad that so many people were naive enough to believe his crap, and now we're stuck with this arrogant lying scheister.

    ***

Educate yourself Velos. When you spew nonsense you show everyone what a fool you are. Show me any country with socialized medicine that doesn't have problems with the quality of the care or isn't taxing the middle class to death! Show me one and then you can spew as much nonsense as you like.

It is because on non-thinking people like you that a flaming socialist was elected and is now on the verge of economically sinking this country!

    ***

    United Fascist States of America:

Heil to the Fuehrer Limbo! Obstruct, obstruct, obstruct. No to any improvements in the health care system. Bankrupt the middle class through excessive premiums for health care and lousy private HMO plans.

    ***

I DO NOT TRUST THESE REPORTERS. NO WAY DO THESE DOCTORS WANT TO SETTLE FOR FAR LESS MONEY THAN WHAT THEY ARE MAKING. THEIR EDUCATION COST THEM A TON THEN THEY HAD TO BE AN INTERN FOR YEARS. ASK YOURSELF, WOULD YOU TAKE A LOT LESS MONEY. OUR PRESIDENT LIES, I WOULD NOT TRUST HIM AS FAR AS I COULD THROW HIM. I ALSO DO NOT TRUST MSNBC, NBC AND ABC NETWORKS. THEY DO NOT TELL YOU THE TRUTH OR THE WHOLE STORY. OUR CONGRESS DOES NOT LISTEN TO US. WE NEED TO START SENDING A CLEAR MESSAGE & TAKE THEM OUT OF OFFICE. IF OBAMA RAMS THIS THROUGH HE WILL HAVE VERY ANGRY PEOPLE ACROSS THIS COUNTRY. DON'T YOU JUST LOVE THE AD'S ON TV THAT THE GOVERMENT IS RUNNING. WASTING MORE OF OUR TAX DOLLARS. MAY GOD HAVE MERCY ON OBAMA'S , HE IS GOING TO NEED IT.

    ***

Of course they will work with Nobama. If the government will pay over $300 for a toilet seat just imagine what they will pay for a tongue depresser. LMAO at this idiot in the white house.

    ***

That is a crock of s..t. Just like global warming, while we set 30 record lows in the US for the month of June. If you want to practice for this social health care program, go to an ice cream shop where you pick a number and wait in line.

    ***

Guess his thugs paid them a visit and threatened them and their families.
Big surprise for some of them when they come for my guns so they can take over. HAH

Gotta remember Wright, Ayers, His wife never proud of country, and the Media with no problem having Black Panthers with clubs to intimidate people at voting places. If that would have been the KKK wonder what would have happened ?

And of course the bailouts to his supporters, take over of buisnesses and now everything is still a crisis till we become Communist.

Will end up supporting even more Illegals and Welfare hoods because of this DUMB MF.

    ***

I agree, I'm thinking the time is getting really close for a Revolution. I also think the people in Iran are really showing American people what needs to be done here.

    ***

That whirring sound is AP desperately trying to spin this in a positive fashion. The docotrs BOOED OBUMMER during his speech. What media BS!

    ***

This is a total joke! I will never vote for this Jerk! He can't see the forest for his Socialist agenda!

Part of their talking points is the expression 'free healthcare.' They keep saying 'free,' as though people expect it to be free, as if people are lazy and want something for nothing.

I just want the money I spend on healthcare (which is at least $8K, I'd say, plus the $6K that my husband's employer contributes) to be used -- as much as possible -- for direct care. I'd also like to know that if we had an unanticipated health problem, that we would not be bankrupted because of it.

I'd also like to know that if my husband lost his job and health insurance, that we could pay the same amount per month (or maybe less--but NOT free) and continue to have coverage.

I was at the dr office last week and the nurse said if this goes through then the offices will be flooded with people who couldnt afford to go before. If the Dr spends 10 min with you now he will be spending about a minute with you after this goes into effect.

Healthcare should be free. It's wrong that you should have to suffer if you can't afford to pay.

Because Republicans are good friends with the insurance lobbies. If UHC was implemented, who the fuck would buy the expensive insurance that currently those companies charge?

Doctors are usually liberal because they are at the top of the education chain, but most of them need to pay back expensive loans they needed for Med schools, so the mere idea of a UHC scares them because they think they wouldn't earn enough $$.

If Obama wants to fix the healthcare issue he must enact some programs that allow more students to attend Med School. Bear in mind that the AMA and other medical boards are always lobbying against the possibility of increasing the number of alumni at Medical Schools, because the lower share of doctors, the higher their revenues in the future will be. This has caused a serious shortage of doctors in some areas.

The basic principle of Universal Healthcare is that you are getting treatment no matter what your financial situation or pre-existing conditions are. It's the way it works in most developed countries.

People against UHC argue that it would cause endless waiting lines. In countries with socialized medicine it can take some time to get yourself checked, but if you have any serious illness, like cancer, you are getting treatment the very same day you are diagnosed.

Campaign donations and stock dividends are the first two reasons that come to mind. Oh, and not giving a shit about those pesky have-nots.

Some doctors also have financial incentives to perform costly tests and procedures.

Dr. Atul Gawande recently wrote an article in the The New Yorker focusing on a Texas town where healthcare costs per capita are 3 times as high in comparable demographic areas. However, they actually have poorer outcomes than folks in other areas that spend considerably less.

This is what's known as job creation. New jobs as physician's assistant, CNP, medical records managers, and physicians. Not to mention X-ray technicians and other semi-professional medical jobs. I guess republicans don't see the big picture here.

Right now, I live in a medium sized city in the U.S. and it takes me about 2 months to get an appointment for a physical with a general practicioner. For a specialist ENT it took me a week, and then I got an MRI and allergy test scheduled in another week.

    How is that any different?

Free healthcare works well in other countries. I think it's a great idea for the US and is long overdue.

many see it as a form of communism where the government has control over everything. you have limitations and restrictions that would help the impoverished but would bother the better off.

also their relationships with insurance lobbies have a BIG deal with it too

theres a man i work with that says if im working hard to get benefits so should everyone else! thats the mentality

Yes, taxes. That's how most civilized, modern and industrial nations do it.
