Kinda like how Charles Hunnam constatly has that "walk" or shakes his head "no" everytime he speaks? Annoying isn't it?!

Not a movie, but I've been catching up on an old long-running Australian soap called All Saints. It's about a fictional hospital in the Sydney suburbs. It's really good. Found it by accident - it's available on HULU. I may have to go all the way back to the beginning - but it's pretty good from what I have seen so far. Not as floridly overwrought or as badly acted as US soaps.

    Ender's Game

Crap. Total crap. I had no investment since I have not read the book and it just felt like a totally rushed pile of nonsense.

Last Vegas. I liked it a lot. I loved Robert Deniro and Morgan Freeman in it.

The Wolverine. The movie was crap but this was the first time I watched Hugh Jackman and thought Hot Damn! That part was nice.

"Cabin in the Woods". I was watching it last week on NetFlix while fixing pancakes, so I didn't have any high expectations. I was expecting a standard horror movie kind of like Cabin Fever. But it's more like Cabin Fever crossed with The Truman Show. I think it got better as it went along. Particularly, as things went HORRIBLY awry for the puppetmasters behind the scenes. Great monsters at the end.

I went to the IMDB site during the movie to look up information about the film, and I thought it was pretty funny that the guy who played the pothead character (Fran Kranz) was so fit that they had to keep his character from jumping into the lake for the group swimming scene at the beginning of the film. They said he was apparently as fit as Chris Hemsworth and was "ripped like muscular Jesus", and that if everyone saw how muscular he was, it would ruin the character. (By the way, my daughter who watched it with me, was watching me just now look up Fran Kranz again, and she goes, "Isn't that 'ripped Jesus'?" . God, I love her....)

i'm on vacation and took almost 3 weeks off and am working my way through a lot of the oscar movies that i haven't seen, and other movies i've been meaning to watch. so far, i've watched:

wolf of wall street. loved it. great actors, great writing. it's long but i didn't feel like there was anything they could have removed. not as amazing as i thought it would be but i still really enjoyed it. jonah hill stole the show.

behind the candelabra: amazing. what a great movie. it's funny, it's camp but without being a caricature, which it could have easily devolved into in the hands of lesser actors and a lesser director. it's also got a sweet, tender side to it that i really loved.

captain philips. i really enjoyed this one too. and i like that it's shot almost documentary style, no fuss, no nonsense, none of that cheesy music that ruins most hollywood movies and, best of all, a solid and subtle performance by hanks with none of his usual tricks. but the somali pirates totally steal the show.

all is lost. holy shit what a sadistic little movie. and i mean that in a good way. you get angry, frustrated, desperate, impatient... basically, you go through all the emotions robert redford goes through, shipwrecked in his tiny inflatable dingy. fantastic movie. but holy fucking shit, redford ruined his face with plastic surgery, he's got cocksucker lips now and a terrible facelift. and it looks like he's dyed his hair with orange crush.

no, he doesn't do it in other movies and he does it in this because his character is kind of OCD which is also why he's so stubborn and won't let cases go and is so thorough but also kind of weird and socially awkward.
it's a great movie. slow and raises a lot of questions. and it's interesting how different people react to it. i ended up having an argument about hugh jackman's character with my mom and my brother, they defended the things he did to find his kid, while i thought he was absolutely horrible and ended up being the second 'villain' of the movie along with the kid snatcher.

started watching this and we had to turn it off after 45 minutes. i found it cheesy, unfunny, predictable... and it pissed me off to see 4 great actors wasting their talent in this. also, mary steenburgen has had so much work done on her face she can't talk right anymore and looks like she had a stroke.

What hit me right in the feels was Damon's binging and ranting about how he was going to adopt him.

Farewell (L'affaire Farewell), an old school cold war espionage thriller with an international cast - my future husband, guillaume canet, as an employee of a french company based in moscow in 1981 who gets caught up in an espionage operation by becoming the intermediary between a disgruntled kgb colonel played by serbian film director emir kusturica, who's leaking secrets to the french secret service, and the french intelligence service. fred ward plays ronald reagan (for once, portrayed like the ridiculous, dumb asshole that he was), philippe magnan plays freshly elected françois mitterrand and willem dafoe as a veteran CIA agent who knows every trick in the book.
great spy movie with a very human dimension. not that the scenes with mitterrand and reagan aren't important but what the film is really about pierre (canet) and igor (kusturica), their improbable friendship and their own lives and how they're affected by this huge secret they're keeping.

Okay....thank you, Sput...that makes sense. I didn't think I had ever noticed Jake doing that before in any other movie.

Sput, that movie sounds very interesting (L'affaire Farewell). Will seek it out.

Last film I saw was Thor: The Dark World

I generally enjoyed it but didn't think it was anything special. Sets were a bit dark and not very believable, Loki was delightful but should have had more to do and Thor wasn't very in character or interesting. A bit on the grim side, I think. Also, there was something about the way Kat Dennings talked. I don't know if she had it in the first movie as well but it really sounded like she had marbles in her mouth and it was very distracting.

We watched Last Vegas and Bad Grandpa this weekend.

I agree Sput, Last Vegas was cheesy and not really funny at times. I did make it through the whole thing, but it reminded me of a Porky's type of show, for the geriatric set.

Bad Grandpa had some funny moments in it,...but some of it was just gross and over the top. But, I know a lot of people love that Jackass comedy, but it isn't really my thing.

A Star is Born (the original with Judy Garland and James Mason). Both Judy and James were incredible in this!
