Saw The Butler this weekend. I must say, I loved Forest Whitaker in this - he was so amazing. And yes, the Oprah gave a good performance as well - leagues beyond her Variations on Sophia acting style she has been apt to do. Some of the scenes made me want to get up and leave the theater, and other made me want to weep, which I did. My friends practically begged me to come out and see it - I'm so glad I did!

good to know. i saw the trailer for it and had it been anyone else besides forrest whitaker in the main role i probably would have dismissed it as oprah-approved oscar bait but i love whitaker (though i wish he'd make less crap and stick to working with awesome directors).

^^^He was so good sputnik. I think he's a frontrunner for an Oscar nod, if not a win.

he's amazing. his performances in 'ghost dog' and 'the last king of scotland' are some of the best acting out there.

yes, it's slow paced in parts but i loved it, i love the subtle, intelligent script and dialogue and the characters are fantastic. i also have something of a cold war fetish so i loved the settings and costumes and i really enjoyed it. i want to read the book now.
gary oldman's performance was briliant. everyone in the movie was good but oldman's smiley was just phenomenal.
The Bloke is a huge Le Carre fan and while he thought the film was ok it's the 1979 BBC miniseries with Alec Guinness as George Smiley that he really, really raves over. You can get it on DVD, so that's his birthday present sorted.

I love Forest, too. My kid actually wants to see this movie which surprised me. We'll have to find time soon.

Oh, my gosh. I freaking love that movie. The other main actor went on to be in "A Few Good Men," but don't think he did much after that. Yeah, I wasn't a fan of "Boat Trip" either.

It's been playing on all the movie channels recently. I like seeing my town Santa Cruz.

Last new movie I watched was This is the End. I thought it was funny. Michael Cera was cracking me up being all coked out and pervy.

Maniac with Elijah Wood. I love seeing him take on oddball roles and this was no exception but to me it was more depressing than anything.

Life of Pi - I loved it. Now I need to research the hell out of it to catch all the hidden meaning. What did the carnivorous island represent - the tooth - oohh just so much of it!

I loved Life of Pi, too. I guess I didn't realize there was hidden meanings to the movie.

The Butler (finally). Loved it. The acting was great, and the walk through history was powerful.
