Watched The Lucky One last weekend. It was okay,...I guess I just expected more. I didn't really connect to any of the characters during the movie. And the end seemed so perdictable in how it worked out for all involved. On a side note,...Zac doesn't seem as femmy the older he gets.

So I was talking to my 13 year old and kept talking about the movie Vacation. He kept thinking I was referring to Christmas Vacation. I realized he'd never seen the original. So I rented it for him. I totally forgot some of the more "inappropriate" moments, but he absolutely loved it and he showed it to 2 of his friends that spent the night a few days later!
I love, love, love the original Vacation. I had read the original short story, written by John Hughes, in National Lampoon, about two years before the movie was made, and they stayed pretty faithful to the original story - except for a happier ending.

I think it is sublime when my kids get into some movie or tv show from my youth - but they are unpredictable. This morning, before school, they were watching (of all things) Diane Keaton in "Baby Boom".

    The Amazing Spiderman (2012)

Eh, it wasn't that amazing. Impressive special effects and I liked this kid better than Tobey Maguire but I guess I'm just not that invested in this character. Emma Stone is pretty but does not look anywhere near 17.

I couldn't get into it either. The only scene I remotely liked was Kate Hudson's singing scene.

The Candidate with Will Ferrell and Zack Whatshisface. There are some lol momente, especially in the beginning.

Quills with Geoffrey Rush and Kate Winslet. I liked it a lot when I first saw it and Geoffrey and Kate are both great but Joaquim Phoenix was too melodramatic and Michael Caine just didn't seem menacing enough for his character. But it had a youngish Bill Compton who looked incredibly hot. Poor Steven Moyer hasn't aged well.

Columbus Circle with Selma Blair as an heiress who never leaves her apartment and gets caught up in a whole lot of sinister shenanigans in her building. It was pretty shit. Because I missed the beginning I couldn't tell whether she was a psycho shut-in or if she was hiding out or both, but I didn't really care. Also featuring Giovanni Ribisi and Jason Lee doing their bit for Scientology by working in a pair.

Jane Eyre with Mia Wasikowska and the top of my new hit-that list Michael Fassbender. I know he's supposedly an abusive prick, but Yasmine Denise Khan was right all along, he's the hotness. Anyway loved this so much I watched most of the repeat the next day. I thought Mia was the best Jane I've seen, to my Oz ears she met the criteria of a Northern accent by sounding like one of the housemaids on Downton Abbey and I could actually believe Mr Rochester would be captivated by her which I don't always get in other versions. And did I mention Fassbender's fucking hot?

What I wanted to see: Skyfall but there was some work related emergency for the bf on Friday, Saturday and Sunday night so no luck.

What I was promised: Looper but turns out the copy we had was corrupt

What I ended up seeing: Top Secret. Dear lord, I remembered every gag way too clearly and I have to say this movie is simply not that funny. Blech.

From Prada to Nada. It was a girls night in and Netflix has limited options. Camilla Belle's skin colour in that film is something else. Jaundice doesn't even cover it.

I watched Fireflies in the Garden with Ryan Reynolds. It was an okay movie, your typical dysfunctional family story. I enjoy movies like this, showing the family dynamic and how issues are dealt with as with the children age.

What happened to her anyway? She kinda vanished off the face of the Earth.

I saw looper a while ago. Meant to comment about it here but forgot. It was surprisingly really good. Joseph Gordon levitt is an awesome actor and weirdly hot in the movie despite all the make up he had on for the film. I would definitely recommend it.

The Shape of Things, a play turned into a film with the original cast of Paul Rudd, Rachel Weisz, Gretchen Mol, and Frederick Weller. One of THE most uncomfortable film experiences I've ever had. A sense of undefined emotional unease and disgust permeated the whole thing. But it was a fascinating plot, I'll give it that.
