the last song. it was on tv while i was cleaning. unfortunately, it was exactly what i expected.

i've never seen either miley or her bf act in anything and aside from their terrible acting, i was really distracted by the fug on both of them. it was kinda surprising b/c i think they look pretty good in pap photos, but her mouth/fat face and his...something are off.

    Prometheus - I like it

Eastern Promises- This a David Cronenberg movie. I'm a fan of Cronenberg's earlier movies. This movie was so borrring.

The 1942 version of Roxie Hart (The movie version of the stage play Chicago was derived from) Was a tad bit disappointed, though Ginger Rodgers was fantastic. This version would have been better on the stage or, if kept on film, would have been SO MUCH BETTER if it had been directed (as one reviewer suggested) by Frank Capra, or taken more edge if it had been taken on by someone like King Vidor. Worth seeing, though, to see Ginger in something other than her classic 'classy love interest' role.

Just watched Mr. Holland's Opus again after many many years. What a great movie. Richard Dreyfuss really deserved the Oscar that year. He was up against Nicolas Cage for Leaving Las Vegas and Cage won. Dreyfuss should've won, he was brilliant in Mr. Holland's Opus. It almost gives a history lesson as well as a music lesson, since his teaching career spanned 30 years.

Nothing should have beaten Leaving Las Vegas, that movie was sheer brilliance.

Agreed, Cage also gave a great performance. Too bad they both had to be in the same Oscar year.

Lola, you can't deny that Dreyfuss was phenomenal in Mr. Holland's Opus...

Odd that neither movie was on the list for Best Picture that year. Here are the nominees:
    Picture:

    Actor:
NICOLAS CAGE in "Leaving Las Vegas", Richard Dreyfuss in "Mr. Holland's Opus", Anthony Hopkins in "Nixon", Sean Penn in "Dead Man Walking", Massimo Troisi in "Il Postino"
    Actress:
SUSAN SARANDON in "Dead Man Walking", Elisabeth Shue in "Leaving Las Vegas", Sharon Stone in "Casino", Meryl Streep in "The Bridges of Madison County", Emma Thompson in "Sense and Sensibility"
    Supporting Actor:
KEVIN SPACEY in "The Usual Suspects", James Cromwell in "Babe", Ed Harris in "Apollo 13", Brad Pitt in "12 Monkeys", Tim Roth in "Rob Roy"
    Supporting Actress:
MIRA SORVINO in "Mighty Aphrodite", Joan Allen in "Nixon", Kathleen Quinlan in "Apollo 13", Mare Winningham in "Georgia", Kate Winslet in "Sense and Sensibility"
    Director:
MEL GIBSON for "Braveheart", Mike Figgis for "Leaving Las Vegas", Chris Noonan for "Babe", Michael Radford for "Il Postino", Tim Robbins for "Dead Man Walking"

Very odd mix of best picture nominees that year.

Ghostbusters. "Let's show this prehistoric bitch how we do things downtown."

What a great movie. I was watching it thinking, "Why don't they make movies like this anymore." Just great lines and dialogue.
