Street Scene from 1932 or so. It was good, though I think there could have been more than one scandal (there were multiple adulteries) when it comes to that many people living in a brownstone. On a whole though, it was good, and felt like a filmed play (Which it was) which some film renderings do not.
The young female lead was especially good.
Sylvia Sidney - IMDb
I am surprised I hadn't heard of her by name before. Turns out she's been in tons of things that I've scene but I've always thought of her as an older character actress. Seeing her as the young ingenue with wisdom and character beyond her years and 'street education' was very enjoyable.
