i went with a group of friends last night and we were evenly split down the middle - half of us loved it (including the 3 who have read the books, though of course they did say the books are more detailed and intricate and there was no way they could put everything in the movie). the other half hated it and said it was ridiculous, poorly made and just plain dumb.

i'm like you - never read the books but loved the movie.

I thought there were huge similarities to Battle Royale but futuristic reality shows and battles to the death aren't exactly new concepts.

The styling on the Capitol people was just hilarious! Looked like Lady Gaga mixed with Elton John in the 70s on crack. Also some influences from the futuristic costumes in The Fifth Element, I think.

Agreed! Though I've read all the books and was really pleased with how loyal they were to it. And yeah Lawrence has this ability to be so damn likeable and girl-next-door, and the Peeta kid was really well suited to the role. Basically he didn't come across as a lovelorn pussy which was great. Super excited for the next one.

Watched My Week with Marilyn. It was a neat look into a section of her life, if we can believe the man Colin that tells the story. She seemed like a dang mess then, and this was before she really hit it big with Some Like it Hot. I am sure was a walking zombie after that. She sure wasn't happy at all in life and was super needy. Sad. All that talent, looks and making tons of money. But she seemed to have really deep emotional and mental issues.

I don't know much about her or her life, so it was an interesting look inside. Michelle did a pretty good job on the film in my opinion. Is there a good bio on Marilyn that is worth a read? I am sure there are tons of books,....just want one that is the most true to life, and factual.

Watched Red State on Netflix over the weekend. It was about this crazy religious cult who lure people to their church to be killed. I had no idea Kevin Smith(Dogma, Clerks, Mallrats) was behind this movie. It's so not like his others.

Also watched No Strings Attached. Almost 2 hours of my life that I'll never get back. There was nothing good about this movie.

    IP Man
Nice to see a good kung fu flick once in awhile. This guy helped train Bruce Lee from my understanding so that makes him that much cooler.
    Chronicle
Overrated and downright depressing. Ever see Push? Its like that but much more depressing.

I Love You Phillip Morris - great fun. Going to read the book soon, because what this con artist got away with is unbelievable. He certainly made the state of Texas look like fools. Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor are fantastic.

A Man Named Pearl - about a guy who decided to teach himself topiary skills and is now considered a contemporary artist. He lives down the road from here. We're going to stop by his garden next weekend.

Rose McGowan's character was probably the most annoying at times

and haven't seen Nowhere yet but plan on watching if I can find it

I've also seen Gregg Araki's The Living End which is pretty good as well

    Fuck you, Jonah!
    Kill him.

Watched The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo last night. It was pretty good. People kept saying it would be so gruesome but besides the rape scenes, the rest wasn't that bad.
