i finally got to the theater to see drive. omfg, was it pretty to look at at. loved the story and the acting, too. but the fashion, the soundtrack, the feel was over-the-top awesome. there was something so glossy & 80s about it...v slick. i think ryan gosling is one of the best actors of his generation. i was srsly crushing on his character during the whole fucking movie...like maaaaad crushing.

it really made me miss going to the movies. i've got to go more often.

I haven't read the book but the movie was watchable. Now I know who Lindsay Lohan's replacement is anyway.

Memento. It wasn't a great as I thought it would be. It seemed right up my alley and I can't figure out why I didn't love it. Maybe because the whole time I was thinking how shitty anterograde amnesia must be. Or maybe because I hated most of the characters, and not in a fun way. Guy Pearce was incredibly hot in it though. For some reason I'm never quite as impressed with Christopher Nolan films as I expect to be.

Finally saw Bridesmaids. I laughed out loud a lot but it wasn't as good as I expected. Kristen Wiig is a bit of a butterface, she looks like a 40 year old Olsen twin.

Insidious. Boring predictable horror by numbers. Plenty of loud startle scares and no substance.

Return of the Jedi - blu ray

Still stupid. Lapti Nek replaced with some CG nightmare musical number. Bad acting. No gravitas.

The Rum Diary. I enjoyed it but I wouldn't recommend it unless you were a definate fan of Hunter S Thompson (which we both were). The cast were all great except for Amber Heard who really struck a bum note and was wooden as hell. I'll definately watch it again when it comes out on DVD, but most likely as an appetiser for a Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas rewatch.
I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me. Hunter S Thompson

I went to see J Edgar, last night.

I thought it was really good. Leo, as usual, impressed and really dove into the role. Armie Hammer, was charmingly delicious! He was very good and held his own alongside Leo. They were both very convincing as portraying lovers as the movie depicts, (especially Armie) and the story of them in and of itself was so moving, lovers or not, these two men really loved and understood each other more than anyone else.

A lot of the general complaints about this movie are the length (it is a bit long- over 2 hours) but I thought it moved along very nicely, and the constant switching back and forth from present day (old Hover) to young Hoover, saying things such as it was confusing, poorly done, hard to follow, etc. I personally had no problem following the movie and thought all of the flashbacks were nicely done.

However, I do have one teensy, complaint...Armie's old age make-up. Leo's wasn't quite so bad, but Armie's was just awful. It's kind of hard to describe but he didn't look "realistically" old. His face looked waxy and it was so distracting!

I saw The Ides of March and Tower Heist. Both were average films, 3/5. Nothing spectacular but enjoyable throughout. This week I plan on seeing Melancholia
