I just looked up both movies and it looks like she made the same movie twice, just with different names. Weird. I can tell you one sucked, I'm betting the other one did too.

    Cool

I'm currently enjoying "Lonesome Dove" (thanks to Lonesome Dove Weekend on AMC).

It's the 398th time I've seen it but what the hell. Can't get enough of "Gus" and "Call":

I watched the whole thing a couple of weekends ago. I loved the book and the series was almost perfectly cast, especially Robert Duvall. But I've heard the sequel stars Sissy Spacek as Lorena so I'm giving it a wide berth, as Sissy just isn't beautiful enough (at all) to play her.

The third version of Back Street with Susan Hayward and John Gavin. I hate it when Hollywood does a movie in a certain time period, but uses the current (at the time) fashions. This story takes place from WW2 - early 1960s, and the entire movie, everyone dressed like it was 1961. More than a few movies in the 60s did that. And Susan at 44 was not believable as a young twenty-something girl. John Gavin was so hot-looking, but may have been one of the worst actors contracted to Universal.

Or like when Hollywood takes a classic (Pride & Prejudice) and not only totally miscasts the lead (Greer Garson) but transplants it to a period where they could make them wear hoop skirts, just for the sake of it. I really hated that movie even though I love Larry Olivier. But really "the middle classes at play"? Blasphemy.

Saw "Up In The Air" with George Clooney. OK for a laying around feeling sick kind of day. Anna Kendrick was good and yet I find her really boring, and the chick who played his love interest had gone to town on the fillers/lips and looked like a freak.

And didn't Emma Thompson do the same thing with Sense and Sensibility - making the character ten years older than she was in the book? And Emma was STILL too old! Not a big fan of Austen books-cum-movies, but I did enjoy Kate Winslet in this very much.

I never got Garson's appeal. All I could ever see was her nostrils and her haughty but plucky manner. I find her, in her star-making role of Mrs. Miniver, quite insufferable.

The Girl Next Door. I was a Lifetime movie starring Tracy Gold, which I always record her Lifetime movies. This one is really good, I've seen it once before years ago.

I never get tired of this mini-series. I love the book and the mini-series follows the book very closely. Both are pretty much perfect.

Finally saw X Men First Class. Team Magneto. Damn! He's one hot mofo. He and James M are perfectly cast. Perfectly. I thought they should have done a better job of looking at each of these two characters. It felt like they handed the audience a few blubs here and there to explain why Magneto is conflicted but there was no sense of where Prof X was coming from.

That stupid Tinker Bell type character Zoe Kravitz played was irritating and distracting. The rest of the supporting cast was ok but, again, it felt like the director was tryign to tell all of there stories in 140 characters or less.

saw this tonight with some friends. what an absolute piece of shit. not even a great cast of actors and a premise based on a phlip k. dick short story could save this from being a steaming pile of dog poo.

War of the Worlds - Spielberg's version. Better than I expected, even Tom Cruise's performance did not suck. The aliens were creepy. Cannot help but notice similarities between it and Independence Day, but WOTW is the superior film to me.

I really liked both movies, but liked WOTW even more. The sequence when the aliens first come up through the street (and everyone tries to run away), was just an incredible, scary scene. Because I have a daughter about the same age as the Dakota Fanning character, it made the movie even more distressing to watch. It's one thing to try to run and save your own ass from a bunch of murderous aliens - but to protect a little kid, too. Ugh. Like that part where they are running around in the basement trying to elude the light probe that the aliens stick down there.

By the way, the part with Tim Robbins losing his mind and Tom Cruise having to deal with him was pretty wild. I'm trying to remember the song Tom has her sing while he "fixes things".
